Former Owl Receives World Cup Medal

It's not that often you can relate to Owls players past or present as World Cup winners - but one former great received a World Cup winners medal today.

Wednesday legend Ron Springett was part of England's 1966 World Cup winning squad - but never received a winning medal because he wasn't part of the starting eleven in the 4-2 victory against Germany.

But the remaining ten England squad members from the tournament received their medals at a ceremony at Downing Street today in person or through family, before being paraded in front of the England crowd during the clash with Andorra.

Springett will always be remembered as a true great for Wednesday, making 384 appearances between the sticks after making a £10,000 move from Q.P.R.

The stopper made a number of starts for England but his last start came in 1966 prior to the World Cup Finals on home soil.
