Owls Draw Rochdale

Owls Draw Rochdale

The first round draw for the Carling Cup is complete, and Wednesday are at home to Rochdale.

The Owls will face the 'Dale at Hillsborough in the week commencing 10 August, a League Cup match in 2002/3 the only previous meeting between the two (Wednesday edging it 1-0 with an early strike from Gerald Sibon on that occasion).

Other ties involving our local rivals are: the Blades bag a home tie with Port Vale, Barnsley are away to Lincoln and Leeds turn out at Darlington.

70 Football League clubs appear in this round of the Cup, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough receiving byes as the next highest placed clubs in last season's league tables.

The top flight clubs enter from the second round on: those clubs involved in European competitions (Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa and Fulham) enter at the third round stage. This season's final is at Wembley on 28th February.
