'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Potter? Clingan? Miller? Whatever..

OK, no real news emanating from Hillsborough, so what can a newspaper do but speculate?

Brian Laws has been 'stepping up the search' for so long now, he must have reached the top of his ladder - but the Telegraph today puts another name in the frame for the Owls midfield.

We know Brian is still interested in Darren Potter (cue sketchy headlines like 'Laws Hoping Owls Magic Rubs Off On Wolves Midfield Wizard Potter'). He may be on a better deal at Molyneux now they've gone up, but he'll have to balance that with the likelihood of playing in the first team, and it depends on whether he's one of those guys who wants to get games under his belt and whther we can give him the wage he wants.

We're told Brian is interested in Norwich's Northern Ireland international Sammy Clingan (cue sketchy headlines like 'Wednesday Join Trek For Canaries Clingan') but Sammy will command a fee, and that's something which, surely, we won't have, unless we sell first.

Someone who doesn't command a fee is Liam Miller, having been released from QPR, so the price is right. However, the former Celtic youth player has quite a history: he made a bit part appearance at Manchester United after leaving the Bhoys under a cloud of alleged disloyalty. A relatively settled loan period at Leeds (reaching a playoff final) was followed by a Sunderland adventure under the watchful eye of Roy Keane, who dispensed with Miller's services by boiling over after Miller missed training once too often. Not likely to be heading for Ipswich then.

So it seems if there's an out of contract midfielder with any pedigree out there looking for a new deal, we're being linked with him. Stay tuned. Anything could happen in the next half hour. Or not.

Clingan will definately require a fee, I suspect that Wolves would like a fee for Potter but might in the end just be glad to get him off the books. Miller....am I the only one who finds this prospect, with all the potential drawbacks, intriguing. Still need a striker though (will I ever shut up about that).
robc
Despite Miller's CV, rob, I know what you mean. Maybe some seasoned Miller watchers from his former clubs can give us some info.
Auckland Owl
Another shorty in midfield? no thanks. We need a tall, commanding presence, who won't get bullied in the middle of the park. Darren Potter every time for me given the choice. Failing that, surely there has to be better than Liam Miller available.
The Owler
Just been on Wolves official site, and on player profiles Potter is not even mentioned as part of the squad.
ecco owl
to be honest i wasnt that impressed with potter-dont get me wrong hes a decent player but as the owler said-surely there has to be better out there!!!
supersibon
What about ex Wolves and now Stoke player Seyi Olofinjani, did'nt see his name in the Stoke squad too often last season, he looked a excellent player last time i saw him play at Hillsborough. He's 6 foot plus and very strong, would he be better than Potter.
ecco owl
Seyi Olofinjani only moved in the last close season for about 3million (i think) Stoke would want some of that money back, unless we look at loaning him?? what about looking at the big 4 res teams for loans?? not that s***e we got from Chelsea though!!!
Bognor_Owl
setting you sights far far too high. remember you only a midtable team at v best so you can't expect players mentioned to come to a club like wendy. especially when the big rich brother is only 4 post codes away!!
bladesforlife1889
It's like a broken record on here sometimes... an article is put up... owls fans comment... bladesforlife puts in his usual wind-up comment and then there's a torrent of abuse and slagging match, with phrases like "pig" and "piggy" blah blah blah...
GameBurton07
I see on teletext today (dunno how true it is) that Leroy Lita is talkin to C Palace... Surely he's a striker worth lookin at and anyway they already got that Sears kid.
WestyOwl7
i think lita is going to price himself out of a move with a few clubs cos of his wage demands!!! be nice if we cud get him but cant see it. i thought we should have made a move for scott severin from aberdeen-solid centre midfielder-but just gone to watford. or morgan schneiderlin from saints?????
supersibon
i swear Warnock only got Sears to stop us getting him, he saw that Sears prefered to stay in London and once he realised crystal palace were in london he thought he'd step in. Litas been on a free for a while now my guess is the greedy lads pricing himself out of most championship clubs
wesp
what about Chris Killen from Celtic?? hes way down the pecking order could do a job in champ and Laws and t'old Mowbray seem to get on
wesp
or maybe Cillian Sheridan
wesp
Chris Killen from Celtic and New Zealand!! Didnt he go on loan to Norwich and only make sub appearances?? Think we can aim a bit higher than a Kiwi, not much, but a bit!! Plus he got battered by Spain!!
Waddles Wing Wizardy
and the Yanks battered Spain lets get one of them like altidore or davies
wesp
Miller has 'been released' by QPR. A team which we finished on par with last season.... so why should we take their sloppy seconds?
Norman
Why do we need any more players when we already have a squad capable of winning the championship.

you are joking arent ya????
supersibon
how about Paul Hartley from celtic I think he would be great in the championship good experienced head and a good footballer too!
BIG TONY
the blades are after him dont think we could afford his wages would be a good addition but wont come to us
aussie2005
if kakibobaris are after him then I'm sure we could be in with a shout wages or not Im sure he wouldnt command that much anyway he's 32 and I dont think celtic pay massive wages, so I think he would definately be one to think about
BIG TONY
okay i stand corrected... we'll all just have a peaceful and relevant chat about it... my bad.

GameBurton07
id love beni back, hes a legend :D

Have you seen the Burnley vital site, Tudgay £1.75 million offer, i think it will have to be a little more than that, may be double. It would be hard to turn down a chance to play in the premiership, and he is going into his last season of is contract.
ecco owl
What do people think about getting Andrew Surman in? Yes, he's not the massive centre mid we probably need but he is a classy player with a cracking pass/shot/pen/free kick! Saints have gotta sell and they're talking about £400k which is bargain! Considering they turned down an offer of abou£3-4mill a couple of seasons back!!
Waddles Wing Wizardy
if we accept 1.75m im not gonna be optimistic anymore, said it before why is it our players are massively undervalued, spurr 1.5m grant 1.5m now tudgay 1.75m?! Beckfords 5 league below Scotlands 5m and that piece of poo Sharp some pigs actually valuing him more than 1.75m, surely not a chance of 1.75 being accepted for player of the season
wesp
Hopefully Owen Coyle has confused Tudgay for Clarke and astually wants to offer £1.75 million for him after his destruction at Turf Moor!!
Waddles Wing Wizardy
Even better if it was jeffers
ecco owl
He can take both Jeffers & Leon for that LOL we defiantly need a strong foot on the ball midfielder to control things but we need a good striker I know a lot of you don’t like him but Beckford would be great for us I have seen him a few times & his pace is frightening & he can hit the net & that’s what we need to partner Tudguy & or Akpo
