Potter? Clingan? Miller? Whatever..

Potter? Clingan? Miller? Whatever..

OK, no real news emanating from Hillsborough, so what can a newspaper do but speculate?

Brian Laws has been 'stepping up the search' for so long now, he must have reached the top of his ladder - but the Telegraph today puts another name in the frame for the Owls midfield.

We know Brian is still interested in Darren Potter (cue sketchy headlines like 'Laws Hoping Owls Magic Rubs Off On Wolves Midfield Wizard Potter'). He may be on a better deal at Molyneux now they've gone up, but he'll have to balance that with the likelihood of playing in the first team, and it depends on whether he's one of those guys who wants to get games under his belt and whther we can give him the wage he wants.

We're told Brian is interested in Norwich's Northern Ireland international Sammy Clingan (cue sketchy headlines like 'Wednesday Join Trek For Canaries Clingan') but Sammy will command a fee, and that's something which, surely, we won't have, unless we sell first.

Someone who doesn't command a fee is Liam Miller, having been released from QPR, so the price is right. However, the former Celtic youth player has quite a history: he made a bit part appearance at Manchester United after leaving the Bhoys under a cloud of alleged disloyalty. A relatively settled loan period at Leeds (reaching a playoff final) was followed by a Sunderland adventure under the watchful eye of Roy Keane, who dispensed with Miller's services by boiling over after Miller missed training once too often. Not likely to be heading for Ipswich then.

So it seems if there's an out of contract midfielder with any pedigree out there looking for a new deal, we're being linked with him. Stay tuned. Anything could happen in the next half hour. Or not.

Clingan will definately require a fee, I suspect that Wolves would like a fee for Potter but might in the end just be glad to get him off the books. Miller....am I the only one who finds this prospect, with all the potential drawbacks, intriguing. Still need a striker though (will I ever shut up about that).

Despite Miller's CV, rob, I know what you mean. Maybe some seasoned Miller watchers from his former clubs can give us some info.

Another shorty in midfield? no thanks. We need a tall, commanding presence, who won't get bullied in the middle of the park. Darren Potter every time for me given the choice. Failing that, surely there has to be better than Liam Miller available.

Just been on Wolves official site, and on player profiles Potter is not even mentioned as part of the squad.

What about ex Wolves and now Stoke player Seyi Olofinjani, did'nt see his name in the Stoke squad too often last season, he looked a excellent player last time i saw him play at Hillsborough. He's 6 foot plus and very strong, would he be better than Potter.

Seyi Olofinjani only moved in the last close season for about 3million (i think) Stoke would want some of that money back, unless we look at loaning him?? what about looking at the big 4 res teams for loans?? not that s***e we got from Chelsea though!!!

setting you sights far far too high. remember you only a midtable team at v best so you can't expect players mentioned to come to a club like wendy. especially when the big rich brother is only 4 post codes away!!

It's like a broken record on here sometimes... an article is put up... owls fans comment... bladesforlife puts in his usual wind-up comment and then there's a torrent of abuse and slagging match, with phrases like "pig" and "piggy" blah blah blah...

I see on teletext today (dunno how true it is) that Leroy Lita is talkin to C Palace... Surely he's a striker worth lookin at and anyway they already got that Sears kid.
