Tudgay Agent Pushes Burnley Talks

Tudgay Agent Pushes Burnley Talks

The agent of Marcus Tudgay, Darryl Powell, has revealed that the Owls' striker would love the chance to talk with Burnley over a possible move to Turf Moor.

Former Wednesday and Derby County man Powell has been vocal in the media ever since it emerged that the Premier League new boys were interested in last season's top scorer at S6.

And he's told the Sheffield Star that Tudgay, who's yet to pen a new deal with the Owls, would like the chance to at least talk with the Clarets.

He told The Star: 'He (Tudgay) is aware of Burnley's interest because it came out publicly. He would love the chance to meet with the manager and talk.'

The news could be the beginning of the end of Tudgay's successful time in the famous blue and white stripes as the glamour of England's top flight looks to lure him in.

The former Derby striker agreed to a new deal at S6 at the end of last season but has yet to put pen to paper, meaning Wednesday could well cash in on their prize player instead of risking losing him for free next summer.

I wonder why it "came out publicly", Darryl? Hmm?

Could it be because Darryl Powell spoke to the press, issued a release, felt compelled to comment? Or is he just attempting to show Marcus the money? Either way Tudders has a year left to run on his contract and, even if he doesn't sign the new one he had supposedly agreed, cannot leave without the club's consent. Burnley will only last one season in the Premiership so next year when Tudders is free to make his own mind up (or have his agent do so?), I doubt whether our Lancashire neighbours will figure highly in his plans. It really is down to what the club wants, do we want to get whatever cash we can by giving in to the player (and his agent) or do we call his bluff and make him honour his contract. If we find ourselves in the playoffs, will Tudders change his mind and want to stay? Will we still want him? (I feel like I'm writing the post script to an episode of Soap) Or will we take the cash and spend it on somebody new?

I want to agree with robc's comment about keeping him with the hope that he will not leave on a free next season when Burnley are relegated but can we take that chance!! The fee now being talked about is 2m. Also if tudders does leave where do we go with our 2m??

id take £2mill straight away for tudgay-hes not premiership class and £"mill seems a good price for him-come on let him go-we could buy 3-5 new players with that!!!

Think if he leaves then thats $hit on his behalf after verbally agreeing a new 3 year contract which just goes to show hes not bothered bout the club just the money. If it was a bigger club thats been in prem for a while i cud maybe understand but like Bognor_Owl sed Burnley will be straight bak dwn.

I hope that they dont sell him and let him rot on the bench for going back on his word and not signing the new contract. What a p***k. Feels like another bougherra situation but with w**ker powell pulling the strings.

Tudgay is a good player who works hard and scores a few goals. However with everyone fit is he a definite starter at centre forward? He wasn't last year. We should have got him signed up when he agreed, now it is upto him what he does. I don't like football agents but Powell has to act in the interest of his client and currently he doesn't have a deal. If Tudgay had broke his leg on holiday would that contract still be waiting for him to sign? He's got to go cos the opportunity is too great, even if Burnley get relegated Tudgay could have a good season and get signed by someone else. Bougherra didn't do too badly did he? I reckon Jeffers will fire this season and him and Sodje would be my first choice pairing anyhow. Spend any money we get from Tudgay (lucky if we get £1m) on getting Phillips who does score regularly even from the bench.
