Tudgay Agent Pushes Burnley Talks

The agent of Marcus Tudgay, Darryl Powell, has revealed that the Owls' striker would love the chance to talk with Burnley over a possible move to Turf Moor.

Former Wednesday and Derby County man Powell has been vocal in the media ever since it emerged that the Premier League new boys were interested in last season's top scorer at S6.

And he's told the Sheffield Star that Tudgay, who's yet to pen a new deal with the Owls, would like the chance to at least talk with the Clarets.

He told The Star: 'He (Tudgay) is aware of Burnley's interest because it came out publicly. He would love the chance to meet with the manager and talk.'

The news could be the beginning of the end of Tudgay's successful time in the famous blue and white stripes as the glamour of England's top flight looks to lure him in.

The former Derby striker agreed to a new deal at S6 at the end of last season but has yet to put pen to paper, meaning Wednesday could well cash in on their prize player instead of risking losing him for free next summer.

I wonder why it "came out publicly", Darryl? Hmm?
Auckland Owl
Could it be because Darryl Powell spoke to the press, issued a release, felt compelled to comment? Or is he just attempting to show Marcus the money? Either way Tudders has a year left to run on his contract and, even if he doesn't sign the new one he had supposedly agreed, cannot leave without the club's consent. Burnley will only last one season in the Premiership so next year when Tudders is free to make his own mind up (or have his agent do so?), I doubt whether our Lancashire neighbours will figure highly in his plans. It really is down to what the club wants, do we want to get whatever cash we can by giving in to the player (and his agent) or do we call his bluff and make him honour his contract. If we find ourselves in the playoffs, will Tudders change his mind and want to stay? Will we still want him? (I feel like I'm writing the post script to an episode of Soap) Or will we take the cash and spend it on somebody new?
robc
I want to agree with robc's comment about keeping him with the hope that he will not leave on a free next season when Burnley are relegated but can we take that chance!! The fee now being talked about is 2m. Also if tudders does leave where do we go with our 2m??
Bognor_Owl
id take 2mill straight away for tudgay-hes not premiership class and "mill seems a good price for him-come on let him go-we could buy 3-5 new players with that!!!
supersibon
Are Everton wanting cash for Anichibe and if so how much?
robc
lets face it he's off.
Radon Barrier
Think if he leaves then thats $hit on his behalf after verbally agreeing a new 3 year contract which just goes to show hes not bothered bout the club just the money. If it was a bigger club thats been in prem for a while i cud maybe understand but like Bognor_Owl sed Burnley will be straight bak dwn.
ollyowl70
I hope that they dont sell him and let him rot on the bench for going back on his word and not signing the new contract. What a p***k. Feels like another bougherra situation but with w**ker powell pulling the strings.
owlswfc
Tudgay is a good player who works hard and scores a few goals. However with everyone fit is he a definite starter at centre forward? He wasn't last year. We should have got him signed up when he agreed, now it is upto him what he does. I don't like football agents but Powell has to act in the interest of his client and currently he doesn't have a deal. If Tudgay had broke his leg on holiday would that contract still be waiting for him to sign? He's got to go cos the opportunity is too great, even if Burnley get relegated Tudgay could have a good season and get signed by someone else. Bougherra didn't do too badly did he? I reckon Jeffers will fire this season and him and Sodje would be my first choice pairing anyhow. Spend any money we get from Tudgay (lucky if we get 1m) on getting Phillips who does score regularly even from the bench.
Hirsty's Shinpads
tudgay or phillips for a season? no brainer i would say.
Dubai-Owl
Shout at me all you want but I think it would be a BIG mistake keeping him, so get rid now.
Skeggy Owl
Any news on potter yet?? What about Ngog on loan from Liverpool?? Read today that Rafa would be happy to send him on loan in the Championship?? Could use the Tudders money to fund it??
Bognor_Owl
i agree skeggy owl. i want him to go!!!! he wouldnt be in my first team anyway!!! and 2mill would be a very good price. whats anyone think about ched evans on loan??? zheng zhi-just left charlton surely be better than potter????
supersibon
if 1.5 to 2mil is on the table then take it and push for leroy lita,we havent really got pace upfront and lita would b a great signing to replace tudgay. lita, sodjie, clarke and jeffers with miller ,potter pulling the strings behind would bring goals next season
carlton owl
as ive said before take the money and put it on nigel cloughs desk for varney .although do like the sound of lita!!!
wedtillidie
Lita could be a good signing but beating the blunts to Ched Evans would be my choice.
robc
Now thats more like it robc you've got your wednesday head back on [i'm sorry about the comment on the other page, i hope you except my sincere apology and i'll try not to let it happen again]
ecco owl
Ive got a feeling the deal has been done already, dont ask my why though. I think they have agreed to keep it quiet until we have found a replacement, in which case I would like it to be Varney. Ive said on the main board, lets see if Tudgay is on the plane when they go to Malta. If he aint then you can take that as read that he's gone or ging. I just wish the would hurry up because its begining to p155 me off now.
Skeggy Owl
first things first the last thing we need is for it to drag on all summer, if he's gonna go lets sort out a price and work on getting a replacement. we're not gonna fetch anything near what he's worth because of his contract status, so if theres an offer of say 2m plus, we should take it in my opinion. this extra cash could be the difference between average championship players and the better quality ones we need. agree totally wedtillidie, would love varney back along another striker and a creative midfielder/winger, we'd have a very healthy looking side indeed! should probably remember that its darryl powell doing all the talking at the minute however, so lets not slag tuggy off just yet!
neverlicktheBeever
Apology accepted Ecco, we'll say nothing more about it. Skeggy is completely right that this needs sorting one way or another asap. Either he stays or he goes but let's stop playing around. Brian talk to him and sort it out one way or another.
robc
Even if all the talk is coming from Darryl Powell, it will be unsettling Tudders (which is probably the object of the exercise), so I'm beginning to feel that maybe it would be best to grab the 2 million and let him go - that should give us enough to get Varney, a decent winger (Songo'o?) and maybe still a Prem striker on loan for the season. That would make us stronger........
US Owl
take 2m, buy two proven goalscorers at championship level. Jeffers ain't gonna fire this season, Sodje could possibly do a job if he stays injury free. We need a goal scorer in the mould of Phillips
Norman
As much as I love Tudders, Im pretty certain he's going now - hopefully for 2million at least. In my eyes, we should spend the money on Billy Sharp (I rate him and think he'd do us a job, I don't care he's a blunt), Frank Songo'o and try and tie up Leroy Lita. We've got to remember the situation with season tickets too though guys, they aren't selling too well. I doubt we'll hit the target that's been set now despite the good start so if we can put a little money aside from this sale to accomodate that I think it'd be sensible.
GameBurton07
Billy sharp are you mad hes not worth it,evens Laws sed that wen they where asking that amount for him wen piggys bought him.No thanks let him stay where he is.
ollyowl70
I still maintain he's a quality player. Every Wednesday fan gets their back up when I say that and if you're all honest, it's mainly because of who he plays for and supports.. His record for the blunts isn't great admittedly, because he doesnt suit their style of play - but he was electric for Scunny under Laws. Ive got a mate who worked for Scunny whilst Sharp was there and he was a different class. I'm pleased he's fired blanks for Sheff Utd but still think he'd be class for us... Regardless of what others say... Anyhow, we're linked with N'Gog now.
GameBurton07
I will be happy enough if he stays because he is fully committed in the way he plays the game. I can't see how we'd get more than 1m for him tho. As for Lita it would be an absolute disaster if we got him, dressing room unrest plus his wage demands would be silly.
Hirsty's Shinpads
Surely the longer Lita goes without signing for a club means that he will have to alter his wage demands as the season approaches.
robc
This maybe slightly unfair, but my mind was made up on Lita a few years ago when I saw him interviewed on Match of the Day wearing a massive pair of headphones and acting like a big 'I AM' after scoring a couple of goals. Not for me
