Purse Strings Owls Captaincy

Wednesday new boy Darren Purse has been handed the captain's armband for the Owls' forthcoming Championship campaign.

The former West Brom and Birmingham man only arrived at Hillsborough this pre-season from Championship rivals Cardiff City.

But already the centre-back has been handed the responsibility of being skipper for his new team mates next term, in place of Richard Wood.

The experienced player was expected to take the armband from Wood following his arrival, and Wood's uncertainty at the club following links with Coventry City.

Owls boss Brian Laws has since explained to the official Wednesday site that Wood is 'disappointed' not to continue the captaincy into the new season but that he 'understands' the reasons for Laws' decision.

I don’t thinks so lads I just think BL wants an old head as captain give Purse a chance I think he will be good for us, not sure about this Maltese striker sounds dodgy to me although he's good with the wide ball there’s nothing like a Maltese cross (sorry)

He still wouldn't be first choice in my team, he's too slow and will get caught out far to often. If he wasn't good enough for Cardiff's first eleven he's not good enough for ours. As I have said, his addition is a good move in solidifying our squad but as team captain? If he was taking the role of club captain that BL likes to give the older heads I could understand. I hope that if he is now a shoe in for the first team that the old sod proves me wrong but if he doesn't don't say you weren't warned.

good choice in my opinion a bit of experience in the back four

You can't give the armband to someone who might not stay.
Auckland Owl
Good choice in my opinion, it will leave Woody to concentrate on playing.

does this guy who's on trial resemble a crunchy centre with a chocolatey shell? After all he is Maltese(r). My apologies
