Darryl Powell Puts The Boot In

Marcus Tudgay's agent came out punching today, in a bid to take the moral high ground over interest from Burnley for the Owls striker.

Powell said to the Yorkshire Post: 'I don't want a slanging match with Sheffield Wednesday - or any other football club - but Marcus Tudgay is my client and I have to give him what I believe is the best advice.

'Like any player, Marcus wants to play in the Premier League. Sheffield Wednesday have been offered a fee in the region of 2m for a player who has just 12 months left on his contract. If that is 'derisory' in this current financial climate or 'unrealistic' for a Championship player moving to a Premier League club, then I don't know anything about transfer fees.'

'When a Premier League club comes in for a player, it changes everything. Marcus is adamant that he wants an opportunity to talk to Burnley and I am sure any other player would feel the same given the same opportunity. As things stand, Marcus is not looking to sign a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday. He is 26 and thinks this might be his one opportunity to play in the Premier League.'

If there's one guaranteed way to burn your bridges, Darryl, you've just done it. Read the signs.. Lee Strafford says Wednesday won't entertain a sale at the current level of interest. You're the one agitating for a transfer.. push it as far as you can, you've obviously got your eye on your commission. How much did Chris Brunt cost West Brom? Come back when you've got a promise of that kind of cash, or Marcus is staying right where he is. In your own words, you don't know anything about transfer fees.

Great article and loved the editorial comment. Too right! Clearly Darryl Powell knows as much about transfer fees as he did about playing. Do I really have to spell it out. When right backs (admittedly very talented ones) are going out of the Lane for 6million then 2million for a goalscorer who knocked in 15 goals whilst playing half of the time on the wing is derisory. Clearly I believe we may lose this one, if not now then in January but I'm delighted with the stand SWFC are taking. Payup or go away (my polite head on at the mo) Mr Coyle and shut up and f*** off (still my polite head) Mr Powell.

he said it himself that he doesnt know anything about transfer fees. But i bet that he knows a lot about the commission he is looking to get. I didnt realise it was every players dream to lose nearly every game of the season in the premiership.

think BL needs to sit down with MT & DP, AND NAME HIS PRICE. can't see tudders stoppin now, so decide how much and get that figure on the table, take it or leave it.

Good for you Keith...... if Burnley don't want to pay what we feel would be a fair price then they can feck off. As for Tudders, if he really does not want to sign the new contract that he'd previously agreed, let him rot..........

"I didnt realise it was every players dream to lose nearly every game of the season in the premiership." Perhaps not, but all players would rather be at a stable club in a higher division, with a shrewd and wise manager and professional chairman - rather than at a club with a chairman and manager who spit their dummies out and reacts in such an unprofessional manner toward a club that makes an offer for a player that makes them look like absolute buffoons.

It's clear that both Burnley and Powell are trying to hold Wednesday to ransom. But yet according to ClaretSheff, we're the one's acting in an 'unprofessional manner'. What ever happened to conducting transfer business behind closed doors? Burnley & Powell obviously acted in an unprofessional manner by making the thing public.

this is what the *****er has said on sky sports!! Marcus Tudgay's agent admits the Sheffield Wednesday striker is considering handing in a transfer request as he looks to win a move to Burnley. "Marcus wants to go to Burnley and he is disappointed that they have rejected a bid for him," Powell told "Like any player, Marcus wants to play in the Premier League and we are considering all our options. "I plan to sit down with Marcus next week and we will decide what is best for him to do. "Obviously handing in a transfer request is an option and we will talk through all our options." Powell admits Tudgay will not be signing the new deal on offer at Wednesday and he is surprised the club described Burnley's bid, which is believed to be in the region of 2million, as being 'derisory'. He added: "Marcus is not thinking of signing the new deal on offer and he is ready to wait and see what happens. "Marcus is a bit miffed that an offer of 2million in the current financial climate is thought as being derisory. To call the bid derisory was a bit rude I thought for a player who is entering the final year of his contract." looks like marcus is going to do doing a majid on us!!

He's as good as gone now. Another perfect example of agents ****ing the game up. Marcus, if you want to leave a club that has been loyal to you (even when you were playing cr*p), offered you a good contract to be one of the clubs top earners in a good, developing side, and p*ss off to potentially warm the bench at a p*** poor excuse for a premier league club, then go. But only if we get paid what you're worth!! Powell, you're a pillock. I think I speak for most (if not all) Owls fans when I say, I'm a bit miffed too.

What the bloody hell is Claret sheff on about? Of course we're going to turn down an offer if it's nowhere near our evaluation! It's Burnley & Powell who are taking the pee..... 1.5 million plus add-ons, which roughly computes to 1.5 million because Burnley will be coming straight back down and no doubt the "add-ons" will likely be based on Burnley's Premiership survival. So get real you West Ham lookalikes, our top scorer is worth at least twice as much as your tin-pot club offered and you're just coming in with a derisory offer to unsettle him and try to get him on the cheap. With small-minded thinking like that you'll never survive in the Prem, so see you all next year!

As a team who have only recently been promoted after seven millenia outside of the top flight, Burnley should realises the morality issues of having players tapped up. When you come back down, probably next season - although if Hull and Stoke can stay up, anything is possible - I hope you're so magnaminous when you're players are tapped up. Let's face it, it'd only be Tudgay who would go. Pr*ck

ClaretSheff and turfmanphil. Can i ask where are derby now? they are an average team because they were promoted well before they should have been. Where are the likes of Barnsley, Charlton, Bradford now? They are all way below wednesday now because they were promoted too early. With respect, they all deserved promotion in the end but not as soon as they were promoted. Look at Hull. They are second favourites to go down next season, whilst Burnley are favourites. Bradford survived their first season and they went into freefall from there. Hull need to be careful the same thing doesnt happen to them. My point is that you have gone up way too soon and are as big a club as the likes of Barnsley and Bradford were at their equivalent time. See you next season however i can bet that this season will be the only season you will be in a league higher than The Owls for many seasons to come.

Not happy about this at all. Funny how somebody deemed to be so professional, as 'Tuggy' has always been described, is willing to go back on his word and reject a new contract. Seems he's got a short memory - who was it that dragged you from the mire at Derby, Marcus? You weren't doing too well there were you? All we've ever done is embrace Marcus Tudgay, he's consequently flourished & developed as a player because Sheffield Wednesday Football Club gave him the opportunity to. It sickens me that this is the first bit of interest in him and he's off. Well thanks a lot Marcus, you WERE my favourite player, you're not now. Darryl Powell is the man pulling all the strings with this one. Agents are ruining the game it's as simple as that.

As a club we have a choice to either let Tudgay rot in the reserves for 12 months, which I honestly think is a good idea, or cash in now. I forget which paper it is (Sheffield Star or Sheffield Telegraph) but it says that the potential money generated from this sale may be used to launch a double bid for Andy Keogh and Billy Sharp... I'd quite like that but can't see it happening with Keogh's success at Wolves and every Wednesday fan except me hating Sharp...

I don't hate Billy Sharp, he made his choice and went with his heart when we were interested in him and fair enough (how many of us would turn down the chance to play for the team we love?). What I do contend, having watched him at the blunts, is that he isn't much cop. All that is by the by though. What really matters is how we react to the raid on Tudgay. Sound business sense and for the sake of harmony would seem to dictate that we cut our losses and use any money raised to move on. All well and good. BUT if I may throw a cautionary spanner in the works. A couple of seasons ago a slightly more succesful club than our own were raided for their best player by an even more illustrious club on the continent. That player when this approach was rebuffed went to the press and all manner of worthies started to refer to the "slavery" the poor lamb had to endure by fulfilling his contractual obligations. This year the same club Man U, have sold the same player, Ronaldo (winker), to the same other club, Real Madrid for a not insignificant sum. Ronaldo was vilified by Manc fans (surrey was in uproar apparently) but welcomed back as soon as he started scoring. Then when he left for a valuation meeting Utds little has been said by the chattering classes amongst the Mancs. My point is that a lot can happen in a year and I'm more than happy for BL and LS to stand their ground.
