Laws Matter Of Fact About Malta Trip

Wednesday completed their Malta adventure with two more 45 minute run-outs against local sides, but results didn't go their way.

A line up of Grant, Simek, Wood, Hinds, Spurr, France, McAllister, O'Connor, Gray, Sodje and Maltese triallist Barbara started the first match against Birkirkara, and went down to a loss on penalties. Chances for France and Gray came and went in regular time, and the shoot out ended 5-4, Birkirkara stopper Maiorani keeping out Richard Wood's effort to grab the win.

In the second game, an early defensive lapse saw Sliema Wanderers take the lead against an Owls side comprising Grant, Buxton, Wood, Beevers, Spurr, France, Potter, Boden, Esajas, Tudgay and Clarke - a lead they held until the final whistle. Sliema keeper Agius kept out fine headers from Wood and Clarke.

Brian Laws told the official site: 'I said this before Monday and I will say it again tonight, there is no emphasis on simply winning games. It's all about building fitness and staying injury free and that's what we have done.

'We lost the first game tonight on penalties and the second because of a mistake in the first minute. Other than that, I thought we did okay. We are nowhere near the finished article, this was just another step forward to the start of the new season.'

Wednesday now return from the Mediterranean to prepare for action at Victoria Park in Hartlepool next Tuesday night, where they take on Chris Turner's League One side.

Yes BL is entirely right about building fitness and keeping injury free but already our lack of goalscoring talent is apparent. Find that striker BL.

Clear up the Tuggy situation, get some clarity with what's happening in terms of Spurr (who I hear QPR are coming back in for) and Wood (who's upset at losing his captaincy) and then you'll know what's in your coffers to splash out with. We do need a striker with goalscoring instincts and there's plenty out there. Phillips and Lita out of contract. Keogh has recently been talked about and I still say get Billy Sharp. Don't go for Jailbird Hughes though!!

The "headless chicken" that is Andy Keogh had a great season at a club that attained automatic promotion to the premier league so I disagree there. I've already made my points about Billy Sharp and lets not forget the man who brought out the best in both of them... Brian Laws. Re: Leroy Lita, a point well made. He is completely up his own arse and I suppose that could cause unrest - I was thinking purely from a football point of view. Does anyone know how Etienne Barbara got on for us? I see he got subbed on the 39th minute for one game for Marcus Tudgay...

Andy Keogh was booed by Wolves fans for the majority of the season. F*ck it, we have Leon Clarke

Barbara interest is dropped and we're hanging on to Tudgay whether he hands in a transfer request or not - that's the latest.

sorry burton but keogh will not get us the goals we need to get us up and dont forget it was a league below that sharp done well if laws is looking for someone off wolves VOKES would be a better bet or get VARNEY back he looks like he would get the goals with first team football..OR is laws thinking of playing MILLER up front thats maybe why were being linked with more midfield players

Just got back from Malta, enjoyed my holiday, well to hot to play football, games nothing special, kept changing team around, attacking wise not very good, officials poor, Etienne Barbara tryed but no better than what we've got, lets have Spain or Portugal next season.

Its only 'pre-season' FFS. Did you expect them them to go hell for leather and then end up with half of the squad in the treatment room. Thank god Brian Laws knows what he's doing is all I can say.

I was'nt having a go, i was just saying what i saw, i was a little disappointed as far chance's created, maybe it had something to do with only playing 45mins a game, i found that most unusual, but in the 3 hours they did play shots on target were very poor, did'nt expect a derby tie, just a little more creative in these practice matches thats all i mean.
