Owls Ease By Hartlepool

On-trial Ryan France made a shout for a permanent deal with Wednesday by scoring the second in the Owls' 2-0 friendly victory against Hartlepool United tonight.

France was on hand to double Wednesday's tally at Victoria Park after Marcus Tudgay - forever linked with a move to Burnley - had opened the scoring for Brian Laws' men.

Laws fielded a strong side for the trip to take on Chris Turner's men, and Wednesday were relatively comfortable in victory against a side that failed to trouble Lee Grant.

Frank Simek made an outing in defence but new signings Darren Purse and Tommy Miller were left out of the squad, which had a familiar feel to last season's line-up.

But Laws will have been pleased to give Francis Jeffers and Akpo Sodje run-outs in attack and will have been delighted to get the Owls' friendly matches back in England off to a winning start.

Wednesday: Grant, Simek, Spurr, Wood, Hinds, O'Connor, Potter, Gray, France, Tudgay, Jeffers. Subs: O'Donnell, Buxton, Beevers, Sodje, Esajas, McAllister, Boden, Clarke.

Sounds promising, although I still think we need a goalscorer desperately! and time is running out! come on BL!
