Jeffers Nets In Owls Win

Francis Jeffers grabbed a confidence boosting goal as the Owls ran out 2-0 winners in a pre-season friendly at Northampton Town tonight.

Jermaine Johnson grabbed the other as Brian Laws' men continued their impressive pre-season form at Sixfields ahead of the new Championship campaign.

And equally impressive was that the Wednesday defence also kept another clean sheet at the back, following on from the 0-0 stalemate with Hull City at the weekend and 2-0 win at Hartlepool United last time on the road.

The Owls were once again without new signings Darren Purse and Tommy Miller, with Laws revealing the former wasn't risked as he looks to play the new club captain against Blackburn this weekend.

Jeffers and Sodje both proved a handful in attack, while Marcus Tudgay appeared as a second-half substitute amid rumours linking him with a move to Burnley.

Laws will now take a team consisting of youngsters and fringe players to Frickley Athletic tomorrow before the Owls host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
