Frickley See Off Young Owls

A youthful Wednesday side were put to the sword by non-league outfit Frickley Athletic in monsoon-like conditions at the Tech 5 Stadium on Wednesday night.

Owls assistant manager Russ Wilcox returned to his former club with a squad consisting of reserve and youth team players for what was to be a tough clash in wet conditions against the UniBond Premier League side.

A goal in each half ensured the Blues continued their impressive pre-season campaign, but the young Owls had their fair share of chances along the way.

Richard O'Donnell was also impressive between the sticks for the visitors, one of the few notable faces of an Owls side which also included defender Nicholas Wood, brother of Richard, and the highly rated Max Wragg.

Wilcox will have no doubt left Westfield Lane with something to take back with his young guns, who were given a big, physical test by the part-time club ahead of the new season.

Wednesday squad: O'Donnell, Wragg, N. Wood, Nyomi, Poulton, Cottingham, Harrison, Barnett, Kirkland, Oliver, Kendall. Substitutes: Jameson, Eckhardt, Meehan, Hall, Palmer.
