Tudgay Signs New Owls Deal

Marcus Tudgay has ended speculation linking him with a move away from Hillsborough by signing a new four-year deal with Wednesday.

The striker was heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Burnley, with the Clarets having a 1.5 million bid rejected for his services.

But Tudgay has finally ended the speculation by committing his future to the Owls with a new four year deal.

The former Derby hitman has revealed he spoke 'extensively' with Owls boss Brian Laws and chairman Lee Strafford over his future.

And the talks resulted in him penning a new deal with the belief that Wednesday could achieve promotion to the top flight sooner rather than later.

Tudgay was the PFA Fans' Championnship Player of the Year last season, and also took a number of club awards including player of the year and goal of the season.

So, one year with Burnleh, or four with us. No contest. I guess Darryl Powell did his job but, Marcus, he needs to be fired.

this is excellent news. I have no doubt that this time last year we would have taken the money. It does seem that the new regime are showing much more ambition and we can look forward to a brighter future. Since France decided on the dark side, I have been feeling a bit depressed about our prospects, but this is a real indication that we are on the right road at last!

There's only one team in Sheffield showing ambition and keeping their assets, well done BL and LS for not caving in and flogging off the family silver at the first sign of any interest like them other jokers in the City. Well done Tudders as well, i never heard you say you wanted to leave and good on you for doing what you said you'd do a few months ago when you agreed you'd sign a new contract, glad there is still some integrity left in todays footballers, now change your agent!!!

Very pleased with that but a bit surprised too. I wonder what Strafford said to convince him to turn down the Premiership now? As for the agent, they are all the same I guess you either have one or you don't. Personally I'd love to send someone else in to batter my boss into submission over my pay!

Looks like Tudgay does have ambition after all. Lets face it Burnley are just building a team for the season after this when they are back in the championship with a bit of money and some good championship players.

Delighted, personally I think we may be OK with our strike force, we finished 12th last season, and are in a better shape now. We haven't lost anyone, the youngsters are more experienced, Grant has 2 odd years as a first choice now, and we have strengthened with Miller, Purse, and Potter for the season. Also I think Gray will be valuable as he can cover DL as well. Altogether a top 10 is realistic and top 6 at a push. Thank you Marcus for staying with us, I never heard a quote from yourself saying anything other than your happy, I cant think of any other player in recent years that has stayed in the Championship, when a Prem club comes lookin

What a refreshing change in the world of football, finally a player who wasnt tempted by more money. Its great to see some loyalty for a change, this makes Tudders a legend in my eyes! A big cheer for him against Barnsley is imminent.

He's scored in two recent derbys, including that goal last season, got player of the season and rejected a move to the prem. Without doubt he is now a wednesday legend. Lets face it we've not had many decent or loyal players over the past 10 years.
