Tudgay Signs New Owls Deal

Marcus Tudgay has ended speculation linking him with a move away from Hillsborough by signing a new four-year deal with Wednesday.

The striker was heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Burnley, with the Clarets having a 1.5 million bid rejected for his services.

But Tudgay has finally ended the speculation by committing his future to the Owls with a new four year deal.

The former Derby hitman has revealed he spoke 'extensively' with Owls boss Brian Laws and chairman Lee Strafford over his future.

And the talks resulted in him penning a new deal with the belief that Wednesday could achieve promotion to the top flight sooner rather than later.

Tudgay was the PFA Fans' Championnship Player of the Year last season, and also took a number of club awards including player of the year and goal of the season.

So, one year with Burnleh, or four with us. No contest. I guess Darryl Powell did his job but, Marcus, he needs to be fired.

bugger i was looking forward to brian signing some platers with the money . lol. at least thats been put to bed for now
mick66owl
oops some platers what are they. meant to be players. lol
mick66owl
brilliant news
BIG TONY
this is excellent news. I have no doubt that this time last year we would have taken the money. It does seem that the new regime are showing much more ambition and we can look forward to a brighter future. Since France decided on the dark side, I have been feeling a bit depressed about our prospects, but this is a real indication that we are on the right road at last!

Get in you Tudders, top man
Aston Owl
There's only one team in Sheffield showing ambition and keeping their assets, well done BL and LS for not caving in and flogging off the family silver at the first sign of any interest like them other jokers in the City. Well done Tudders as well, i never heard you say you wanted to leave and good on you for doing what you said you'd do a few months ago when you agreed you'd sign a new contract, glad there is still some integrity left in todays footballers, now change your agent!!!
sussexowl
Thank God for that!!! I'm relieved that he's signed, but it seemed to take for ever!
US Owl
Very pleased with that but a bit surprised too. I wonder what Strafford said to convince him to turn down the Premiership now? As for the agent, they are all the same I guess you either have one or you don't. Personally I'd love to send someone else in to batter my boss into submission over my pay!
Hirsty's Shinpads
must admit i was looking forward for us having the opportunity to be able to bring in a couple more players but like every1 else has said its definatley good news, now all we need now is for wood and spurr to show the kind of loyalty tudders has shown us and that will be brilliant!!!
supersibon
This has got to be the best news that Ive heard in a long time.
Skeggy Owl
Excellent news!

excellent news

Tudgay should be applauded for showing such committment when he could have played in the prem. Top man.
Radon Barrier
Looks like Tudgay does have ambition after all. Lets face it Burnley are just building a team for the season after this when they are back in the championship with a bit of money and some good championship players.
Handsworth Owl
hahaha just because he has signed a new contract does not stop clubs putting in offer, i give it 2 weeks and he will be off!
blafeman96
Fantastic news.....other players should follow suit and show commitment to clubs that have shown commitment to them
owlswfc
lol....blafeman96...you cant even spell blade HAHAHA....typical thick pig....HAHAHA
owlswfc
great news..still think we need a striker that can hit the back of the net as much as tudgay can..
dublin owl
Delighted, personally I think we may be OK with our strike force, we finished 12th last season, and are in a better shape now. We haven't lost anyone, the youngsters are more experienced, Grant has 2 odd years as a first choice now, and we have strengthened with Miller, Purse, and Potter for the season. Also I think Gray will be valuable as he can cover DL as well. Altogether a top 10 is realistic and top 6 at a push. Thank you Marcus for staying with us, I never heard a quote from yourself saying anything other than your happy, I cant think of any other player in recent years that has stayed in the Championship, when a Prem club comes lookin
owl1
very surprised but excellent news UTO
bradford_owl
owlsufc i meant to spell it that way...why am i not surprise you lot don't get or understand it?! lol
blafeman96
lol get it? what joke? that you did a typo while entering you name? its surprised too, not surprise, you cant do the same joke twice its not as funny
wesp
Another deluded thick piggie to go along with PFL.
Skeggy Owl
blafeman - he's signed a 4 year contract - don't wnat him to, but if he does ****** off, his contract will be worth soooooo much more than a player with 1 yr left. BILLY SHARP TRANSFER LISTED... HAHA
swfcjambo
Qoute "BILLY Sharp has been made available for transfer", Sheffield United have confirmed.
swfcjambo
2million well spent from the piggies there. great news with tudders, roll on this season cant wait lads. cant fckin wait!
ozzietheowl
What a refreshing change in the world of football, finally a player who wasnt tempted by more money. Its great to see some loyalty for a change, this makes Tudders a legend in my eyes! A big cheer for him against Barnsley is imminent.
Danigol_10_SWFC
He's scored in two recent derbys, including that goal last season, got player of the season and rejected a move to the prem. Without doubt he is now a wednesday legend. Lets face it we've not had many decent or loyal players over the past 10 years.
Radon Barrier
By the way blafeman, a little tip. If you are going to write on a discusion page - have a point - it makes it much more interesting for the people reading it.
Radon Barrier
I'm delighted about this. Tudders is a workhorse and we need players like him - a massive plus point and hopefully an example to follow for Woody and Tommy to follow
GameBurton07
my god that was awful english but you catch my drift.
GameBurton07
Tudders for England as captain!!!
