Laws Calls Time On Striker Search

Laws Calls Time On Striker Search

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he's happy with the Owls' current selection of strikers, and that he won't be adding anymore firepower to his squad just yet.

The Owls boss was expected to add a new forward to bolster his squad before the start of the new Championship campaign, after trying and failing with Freddie Sears and also being linked with Everton's Victor Anichebe.

But Laws has been happy with the way his four recognised strikers have performed over the pre-season so far, and is keeping faith in them to find the goals to shoot the Owls to success this season.

'With the squad that we've now got, we've got cover in every position, and we've got all four strikers fit. The midfield and defence are also looking good,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'I haven't the mind to take a gamble on a loan player just to bring in a body.'

Akpo Sodje, Francis Jeffers, Marcus Tudgay and Leon Clarke have all found the back of the net in friendly matches over the summer.

And Laws will only add a new face to the attack should Wednesday lose any of their four frontmen to injury or poor form.

Hmmmm, I think this could backfire. I just have no faith in Jeffers at all, I hope im proved wrong cos he definately HAD the talent, im not sure he has the heart for it anymore, injuries dont help either. Saying that I haven't seen him in any pre-season games...

Sensible under the circumstances. For the record, Jeffers had his most consistent season ever last year (at least as far as staying on the pitch is concerned). Good move: save what little money we have for when we really need it. There was no way we were going to get Saganowski et al unless Tudgay was sold.

agreed with aukland sensible move save the money for emergency there is no reason we can't do well with the strikers we have. no point bringing in a striker for one of our lot to warm the bench especially when there all fit.

I must admit I'd have liked another striker, even if it was just a loan, and especially if we're going to be using Tudgay on the wing again - hopefully not. I'm looking forward to seeing them all in action this season, hopefully they'll stay injury free for the majority!

Ok, voice in the wilderness here. If Jeffers rediscovers his form of I forget how many years ago, if Akpo stays fit for the entire season and plays it like the first 20 minutes of last season, if Tudders enjoys a similar season (having won back the fans, watch for mutch kissing of the badge on his first goal), if the pieman is used as a substitute and repeats his hunger (not for pies) of last year. If all of those things happen then we'll be ok, if JJ adds courage and commitment to his undoubted talent and EE stays fit we'll be more than alright. If these things don't happen then our lack of firepower will bring us up short. Again. C'mon Wednesday!

Ideally I'd have liked to see another quality winger as well as a striker, but maybe BL knows more than we do about the "imminent investment" and thinks we'll be okay until he gets some "serious" money to spend, instead of making do with loans and/or freebies.........
