Former Owl On Trial With Shrimpers

Former Wednesday defender Peter Gilbert has secured a trial with League One side Southend United.

The left-back was released from his contract at Hillsborough at the end of last season after falling down the pecking order with Owls boss Brian Laws.

And he'll be looking to impress on trial at the Shrimpers when he pulls on their shirt in their pre-season friendly clash with Stevenage Borough tonight.

Gilbert arrived at Wednesday on a permanent deal after impressing on loan from Leicester City, and went on to make 43 appearances in the famous blue and white.

Good luck, Peter.
