Young Owls Topple Rovers

Sheffield Wednesday's Academy continued their successful pre-season programme with a 2-1 win over local rivals Doncaster Rovers at Middlewood Road.

Pacey striker Nathan Modest gave the Owls the lead with a cool finish after rounding the keeper.

Modest, had earlier struck a post after being put through by Liam Palmer.

Hot prospect Cecil Nyoni pulled the strings in the centre of the park, after impressing at centre-back mid-week against Frickley.

The Owls doubled their advantage in the second-half after making wholesale changes at the break. First-year pro Callum Harrison glanced home a Danny Kirkland free-kick.

Rovers pulled one back later on, but The Owls held out and nearly added to their advantage through Jack Barnett.

The game was watched by academy graduate Sean McAllister.

McAuley's starlets face Carlisle on Tuesday at Middlewood Road, before heading to a well-regarded youth tournament in the Netherlands.

Definitely Nick, found out earlier that he's only been in England for 4 years, after coming over from Zimbabwe.
