Tudgay Rescues Draw For Owls

Marcus Tudgay rescued a share of the spoils for Wednesday in their final pre-season friendly fixture of the summer against Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Tudgay celebrated signing a new four-year deal with the club by bagging the Owls' second in their 2-2 stalemate with the Ewood Park club.

The goal marked an impressive comeback for Wednesday against the Premier League outfit, who'd gone into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ryan Nelson and Jason Roberts in the first half.

Wednesday fans got to see new signing, and new skipper, Darren Purse in action, while Leon Clarke started in attack alongside Marcus Tudgay.

Rovers looked relatively comfortable on their early 2-0 lead, before fine link-up play between Jermaine Johnson and Tudgay saw the former slot a fine ball for Sodje to power home after coming on to replace Clarke.

The visitors had the chance to regain their two-goal cushion before the break after Richard Wood was adjudged to have fouled Rovers' Stephen Nzonzi inside the box.

But Grant continued his fine form from last season by saving El Hadji Diouf's spot-kick.

Wednesday continued to apply the pressure on the resumption, and were duly rewarded when Tudgay was found inside the box from a Michael Gray corner, and he made no mistake in front of the Kop.

Chances continued to come at both ends, but neither could find the winning goal.

And the big worry for Wednesday fans leaving Hillsborough was of the news of an injury to Sodje which could well rule him out for the start of the season.

Does anyone know why Leon came off after 9 minutes? Sounded like a decent result with Gray in particular having a good game, anyone go today?
Bob_Sacamano
yep I did, gray played really well made himself available all over the park, I thought we were the better side overall and should have won it jeffers missed a sitter near the end after a good shot from esajas, JJ looked lively in the first half and I thought macca got some good challenges in, great to see sodje putting a goal away just hope his injury isnt a serious one
BIG TONY
what was the attendance out of interest?
