Gilbert Hoping The Sky Is Blue

Former Wednesday defender Peter Gilbert could yet play at Hillsborough next season after trying to impress Coventry City boss Chris Coleman on trial.

Vital Sheffield Wednesday reported last week that the left-back was on trial with League One side Southend United after he was released from his time at Wednesday by boss Brian Laws.

The former Leicester City man impressed the Shrimpers management with his performance in the friendly clash with Stevenage Borough.

But he could yet remain in the Championship after featuring for the Sky Blues as a substitute in their friendly clash with Everton at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

Coventry lost left-back Daniel Fox to Celtic recently, meaning Gilbert could gain a contract with City in time for the new Championship season.
