Laws Hopeful On Striker Deal

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is hoping his loan striker target gives Wednesday the nod to bolster the Owls' attacking options this week.

Laws has been looking to use his limited resources to bring a new striker to the club on a loan deal.

And he's been forced to step up his search in light of injuries to Akpo Sodje and Leon Clarke recently.

It's understood that Laws has already spoke with his target and agent and is expecting a decision to be made in time for the Owls' trip to Peterborough United on Saturday.

It's also thought that Wednesday are having to fend off competition from another Championship club for the striker's services.

Numerous names have been thrown into the hat, including Everton's Victor Anichebe and Wolves' Andy Keogh, who Laws has worked with at Scunthorpe United.

We need someone of quality, not someone who's just going to come in and 'plug a gap' until the other strikers are back. Anichebe would be brilliant
welshyowl
I agree, anichebe would be more than brilliant. its such a waste of talent having sodje injured all the time. he will be such a menace in this league if he can stay fit. sadly i think this will be his last season at the club if he doesnt get fit. dont rate that keogh at all though, id rather just take somebody out of the youth team than get him.
DEZZYP
sodjes injury is unrelated to the treatment for his calf in summer, its just a freak injury, once hes got over this i think he,ll be injury free for a long time, definatly anichebe he will be a brilliant aqusition. id get rid of jeffers hes a total waste of money! what ever he had in his younger days he hasnt got now!

I don't know whether I'm too much of a pessimist, but I just can't see it being somebody as good as Anichebe...

On Seth bennetts facebook he states the striker to be "a few clues not a grizzled veteran and a player that the fans know from premier league" seems to rule out keogh for me.
flinoycore
I was just gonna say that I cant see it being any high profile loan signing, it'll probably be some guy under 20 yrs old whose only played a handfull of games and someone who we aint even heard of
johnnywalker69
Ollyowl anichebe has come of the bench a hell of a lot and also played on the right wing, we get him up top with tudgay he'll score
smiggyswfc
So it's not a "grizzled" veteran and it's a player the fans know from the premier league? FFS, I hope it's not Jimmy Smith!! Wouldn't mind if it was the other youngster we had from Chelski though, but doesn't he play in Europe somewhere now?
US Owl
Jimmy Smith plays for Layton Orient. He scored at the weekend.... and he's not a striker.

lol steve_wed - a blunt comment, but informative. :)

Anichebe, Delfouneso, Ngog, Nemeth or Gallagher please.
Danigol_10_SWFC
in order of preference
wesp
David nugent would be a gud signing and so too would macheda from united or wilshire from arsenal. evensme1 like billy sharp would solve our striker crisis at the moment to be quite honest.we only have 2 fit strikers
SWFC_LUKE
Wesp - I'd be happy with ANY of them. But if I had to pick I'd say Anichebe (1) Nemeth (2) Ngog (3) Delfonueso (4) and Gallagher (5) but like I say, i'd be more than happy with any of those. I really feel we need just some raw pace to get in behind, we dont really have enough of that. It scares the hell out of defenders at any level.
Danigol_10_SWFC
Unfortunately i can't see it being any of the mentioned strikers (Anichibe, Delfouneso etc...) Laws has made it clear we have very LITTLE in the kitty for players and unless the premier club is willing to continue paying wages i fear all the mentioned guys would demand too much! It pains me to say it's likely to be a young lad on the fringe of 1st team appearances (like sears) and whether they are the right direction to go for a team that has never been the most prolific... i just dont know. But... then again Laws has normally been pretty shrewd with his signings so hopefully whatever he's got lined up will pay off!
WestyOwl7
people have linked james vaughn with a loan move away from everton this season. he's been quite injurt prone in his young career, so he'd fit in perfectly at hillsbro!
charmer
To be honest I agree Westy but one can dream haha! Saying that though, this chairman goes on about how the club is moving forward and if he's as ambitious as he seems surely we should be linked with the names listed above?
Danigol_10_SWFC
Delfouneso might not be a bad shout but he's meant to have a bit of a Leroy Lita ego about him from what I'm told (by a Villa season ticket holder). I agree with the general opinion that we need somebody pacey who'll run at defenders...
Carbone's Padawan
Slight change of topic, but what's the state of play with this potential investment? Does anyone know anymore of that?
Carbone's Padawan
Dunno mate, but as usual it all goes quiet after loads of hype. Im not getting my hopes up at all. I really do feel that now more than ever is the time when we need investment. I cant see us holding onto our 'better' players for too much longer if we dont progress towards the playoffs and I cant see that happening with the current squad.
Danigol_10_SWFC
Oh i agree totally Danigol... It certainly dosen't hurt to dream a bit and you are right in saying that for the club to move forward, those players are the sort we should be looking at! He seems like a decent guy, Mr Strafford, he's done some good work so far... but i guess theres only so far our finances can be pushed, whoever is at the top! This ever elusive investment is becoming a pain in the a**e now and to be honest, i won't believe any more speculation until it has actually happened! A Cup run would be nice tho, morally and financially!
WestyOwl7
I think somebody like anichebe would be great. Been out injured for a while and everton would want to get him fully fit. If not somebody like delfounseo. But as laws is saying we dont have very much money right now. One thing i would like to no is what is actually happening with any sort of takeover because all the time people are saying we may be getting taken over and its then happens that it is not true. I think that ther is only so much more time before fans turn away again because of lies from the board. If anyone wants to talk to me and they have a ps3 my PSN IS joshswfcfan4eva
