Battling Young Owls Fall At Final Hurdle

Sheffield Wednesday's youth team did the club proud in the Copa del Agatha by finishing runners-up in the prestigous tournament.

The Young Owls were defeated 2-1 by Belgian Giants, Standard Liege in the final of the tournament, with 1st year pro Nick Wood on the scoresheet.

McAuley's youngsters stated the tournament brightly, with a 2-1 win over Dutch team Sparta Rotterdam, with Nathan Modest and Vadaine Oliver on the scoresheet.

Despite a narrow defeat at the hands of German team Arminia Bielefeld, the Owls progressed to the semi-final.

The stand-out performance for the starlets came in the semi-final against Brazillian team Botafogo. Following a 0-0 draw, the Owls won on penalties to progress to the final.

The tournament will have been an excellent work-out for the youngsters, and their pre-season programme concludes on Saturday, away to Tideswell United.
