Sturrock To Miss Derby Match

Owls boss Paul Sturrock will miss the Owls final game of the season away at Derby County as he begins his search to boost his squad ahead of next season.

With the Owls survival in the Championship now secure for at least another season, the Wednesday boss wants to make a head start in the transfer window with nothing to play for at Pride Park next Saturday.

Over 5,000 travelling Owls fans will still hope a strong side is put out to celebrate their Championship status after forking out £25 for a ticket - one of the most expensive in the division.

Sturrock was given three weeks less than other Championship clubs to prepare for the season after the Owls triumph in the League One Play-offs last season.

Now he hopes to make an early start to preperations for the 2006/07 campaign by getting his transfer targets in early. It's likely Sturrock will be keeping a close eye on some of his transfer targets the weekend of the Owls clash with the Rams.

Not so sure about this. I hope we put out a good side and really go for it. Ive not paid 25 quid to see a bunch of reserves running about not giving a monkey! Who'll be in charge of the side?

sounds like a good thing to me. get all the players in as soon as possible unlike last season, and let them gel before the season starts!

I'm sure they'll still put out a good side.. get up that table! An excellent (though slightly unusual) idea from Sturrock.
