Owls To Follow Reading Example

Owls boss Paul Sturrock has revealed that he hopes to follow the example set by Championship champions Reading this season - but knows the change won't happen overnight.

The Royals have run away with the Championship this season, losing just two games along the way. And Sturrock hopes the Owls can follow their example by following a gradual progression over the next few seasons.

Sturrock told the Yorkshire Post: 'I am sure there are supporters who think we will be pushing for the top six next season, and I would never shut the door on that possibility, but success like Reading's does not happen overnight.'

The Owls boss acknowledged that a season similar to that of Steve Coppell's side will not happen next season, but is part of a long-term plan installed at the club. The first two parts are complete - promotion from League One and survival in the Championship this season.

Sturrock continued: 'Reading have been together a long time and they bring in one or two players each summer. The personnel change at this club in the last 12-months has been unbelievable. We only had two players from the year before in the side that won at Brighton.'

Wednesday will hope to follow Readings example and keep the bulk of the squad together for the next few seasons. Sturrock has said he hopes to bring five players in this summer - which will be the start of the gradual progression he hopes for.
