Uneasy Silence Over Woody

So, the transfer deadline has been and gone, but we're still no wiser as to the future of defender Richard Wood, and his links to Roy Keane's Ipswich Town.

With the transfer deadline almost 24 hours old, it's usually safe to assume that all deals have been done and dusted.

Not this one, and Owls fans won't be resting until boss Brian Laws, or someone at the club, comes out and says otherwise.

We believe an offer or enquiry was made for the Owls defender, who's out of contract come the end of the season, by the Tractor Boys, but whether that enquiry was turned away or simply too late to be completed is as yet unknown.

There are still routes around a possible deal should Town want Wood, with the loan market re-opening next week giving the Owls Academy product the chance to move to Portman Road on a loan deal until January, where a full deal could go through.

We've seen this done before, and it could well happen again.

Chairman Lee Strafford, and Laws, have both come out and said players need to leave before fresh blood can be brought into the club, the finances are tight.

And with the defensive options seemingly the best, with both Richard Hinds and Mark Beevers chomping at the bit to get their chance, it seems possible that Woody could well be on his way.

Reports in Suffolk seemed to suggest that his move was a done deal, these reports, of course, before the close of the transfer window yesterday.

We wait for an end to this uneasy silence, with the hope that either club can come out and confirm their current stance on the player...

Uneasy silence! What is there to say?
smurf
That he's not leaving, thus playing down reports that it's all but a done deal
pob
If we sell him we are a set of mugs with no ambition. No better than United. Clearly we are more likely to challenge for the play offs with him than without him. Thats got to be worth more than a poxy 800k. If we had kept onto Bougherra a couple of years ago we may have made the play offs. I think this is true you know. Better not be.

Not a hope of making the play offs with bougherra, we couldnt hit a barn door. This is the first time in ages im fairly confident of a few goals being banged in.
DEZZYP
DEZZY - Bougherra was a defender. We missed the play offs by four points and scored goals for fun all that season. Even the keeper banged one in. After we sold him we didn't win for about 6 games. had we not had that run we would have done those 4 points. How can you be confident of goals this season when two of our strikers are injured, one is on the transfer list for being rubbish and injury prone. We only really have one striker - Tudgay, who ideally should be supporting a main striker as he isn't prolific himself. Back then we had Brunt and Whelan baging in wonder goals. i think our squad is good but a blind man on a galloping horse can see we are anaemic up front.

I'm with Dezzy on this season. Regardless of our injury problems, we have a strong midfiled and Varney is a major plus. Why does everyone seem to think that Wood is off when the deadline has passed???
dobby1
Its all a bit wierd this one. I do agree that IF our strikers can stay fit AND Varney comes up with the goods we are definitely in with a shout but we need to keep hold of Woods.

Who is this Woods guy? :)
Auckland Owl
Lawsy has finally broken his silence on the matter and apparently Roy Keane offered a swap deal for Wood. It's rumoured he offered us Jon Stead as a straight swap which was rejected. Also, he (Laws) talked about offering Wood a new contract at the next feasible opportunity. Sounds good to me.
Carbone's Padawan
What more can he do, CP? All good.
Auckland Owl
What about woods tough!
Radon Barrier
My typing is terrible. I meant Woods though.
