Laws Reveals Ipswich's Wood Bid

Ipswich Town did make a last-gasp bid to sign Wednesday defender Richard Wood before the close of the transfer window, according to Owls boss Brian Laws.

Monday's media reports stated Town boss Roy Keane was to sign the defender, who came through the Owls academy, but all remained quite from both clubs as the transfer window came and went.

But Laws has spilled the beans on the reports, confirming that the Tractor Boys did make a late bid to sign the defender, and a swap deal was included, with the player coming in the other direction believed to be former Blade Jonathan Stead.

Laws told the Sheffield Star: 'We were not interested in a player-swap. Richard Wood knows about it. We've been open and honest with him on it and he was in the picture.'

The 24-year-old's Hillsborough is still up in the air with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Coventry City have also shown an interest previously, and Wednesday will have until the start of the January transfer window to sort out a new deal for the defender, who will be expected to move to Portman Road should a new deal not be sorted out by then.
