Spurr Signs New Owls Contract

Wednesday defender Tommy Spurr has put pen-to-paper on a new four-year deal with the club to end speculation about his Hillsborough future.

The 21-year-old, with whom Vital Sheffield Wednesday are proud to be home shirt sponsors, has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2013.

The signature is key for Owls boss Brian Laws, who's looking to build his team around a number of players at the club, including Spurr, and will be a big boost for Wednesday fans ahead of Saturday's home clash with Nottingham Forest.

'I have been a Sheffield Wednesday player for as long as I can remember and I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club,' Spurr told the official SWFC website.

'The squad is probably as strong as it has ever been during my time in the first team and there is a real feeling that we can achieve things as a squad now so there was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to sign a new contract here.'

The youngster is a product of the Owls Academy and his enthusiasm and progress has made him a firm crowd favourite at S6.

This is brilliant news. Things are certainly moving in the right direction - all we need now is Woody to follow suit and we're actually in the driving seat of our destiny for the first time in years, rather than being forced into selling because of failure to secure contracts and poor finances. (Quite a long sentence that).
