Beevers Back In Owls Training

Fears that Wednesday defender Mark Beevers may be out for the long-term were put to bed today as the youngster returned to light training at Middlewood Road.

The Owls Academy product was taken off on a stretcher during the 3-1 home defeat against Middlesbrough last week, and initial fears pointed towards a lengthy lay-off.

But scans have shown that there was no serious damage done in the challenge, and he'll be in contention for the visit of Cardiff City to Hillsborough this weekend.

'There were fears that he might have suffered damage to his knee ligaments because of the impact, but the scan results were good,' Brian Laws told the Sheffield Star.

'We're happy with that, and he should be okay for the weekend.'

Beevers has been used mainly as a substitute this season, and will not only have to overcome the injury set-back, but also the presence of Richard Wood and Darren Purse in the centre-back slots to get a run in the first team.
