'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls Should Edge Cardiff Fitness Test

Wednesday should go into Saturday's Championship clash with Cardiff City at Hillsborough with a little extra gas in their tanks than their Welsh opponents.

Dave Jones and his troops make the trip to Premier League side Aston Villa tonight for their Carling Cup Third Round clash, while Wednesday sit out thanks to their exit at Port Vale in Round 2.

The Bluebirds will no doubt travel to Villa Park looking to cause a cup shock, and will field a pretty strong line-up for the clash with Martin O'Neill's men.

As well as the clash, one of a number tonight, coming a day later than most of the other Carling Cup games, there's also the possibility of extra-time to what will surely be a tough 90 minutes against the Premier League outfit.

Many folk say that football players should be able to play three games in a week, such is their fitness, and pay, but there's no doubt Cardiff's extra game tonight will drain that little bit extra from them.

And Wednesday should be looking to capitalise, with over a week to prepare for the home clash - that extra day's preparation from Friday's Steel City clash also taken into account.

Here's hoping for extra-time and a real tussle between Villa and Cardiff tonight, eh?
