Varney Ineligible For Derby Clash

Wednesday will be without loan star Luke Varney for Saturday's trip to Derby County as part of the loan agreement between the Owls and the Rams.

The former Crewe and Charlton striker is on a six-month loan spell at Hillsborough after being deemed surplus to requirements at Pride Park under boss Nigel Clough.

But he won't be able to help the Owls in their Championship clash with the out-of-form Rams on Saturday, with the terms of his contract not allowing him to play against Derby.

Varney has been in impressive form since making the switch to S6 - his second loan spell in as many seasons - scoring twice in seven league starts.

Marcus Tudgay is likely to return to the fold after starting Tuesday night's clash with Crystal Palace on the bench due to precautions on a slight neck injury, while Leon Clarke is set to continue in Varney's absence.
