Boden Gets Thumbs Up From Cobblers

Wednesday's young midfielder Luke Boden recently completed a one-month loan spell with Northampton Town.

We asked Vital Northampton writer Steve about his time at Sixfields, his plus points, minus points, and why he didn't spend longer at the club.

He said: 'I really rated Luke while he was on loan here. The club must have also rated him highly as he played in 5 of the 6 available games while on loan here.

We always played him in central midfield where he did well, he never did anything spectacular like go on a mazy run taking it round 3-4 players, nor did he smash any shots in from 30 yards, he was more defensive and did the basics well.

I'd liked to have seen him in a more advanced role though, he's a big lad and that's always useful to have in the final 3rd of the field. He's not the quickest of players, but his ability to pass makes up for that.

I was disappointed that our caretaker manager Ian Sampson didn't keep him here for another few months. We have two good central midfielders, but very poor back-ups for them, so Boden would have made excellent cover for them, and was probably good enough to start most matches.

Well worth the loan, but a bit suprised we didn't get him for longer.'

So, it seems Boden gets the thumbs up from this Cobbler, and it could be that he benefits from another loan spell away from Hillsborough if he can't break into the Owls first team squad.
