Gray Refutes 'Sick Jokes' Claim

Wednesday midfielder Michael Gray has rejected claims by Coventry's Leon Best that he made 'sick jokes' about Stephen Gately during Saturday's Championship clash.

Following an injury to Sky Blues midfielder Aron Gunnarsson, Best told the Coventry Telegraph: 'Gray tried to get him to get up and then he was making sick jokes about Stephen Gately when the people carrying the stretcher were coming on.

'It was pathetic and I wasn't happy with that and I had to walk away.'

But, speaking to the Wednesday official site, Gray has refuted the claims, saying: 'Anyone who knows me knows that I would not conduct myself in that way.

I find it disappointing that another player would suggest that I made those kind of comments. The words that have been published are misleading and way off the mark and I dismiss them completely.'

But Gray, who tried to pick Gunnarsson, who was suspected to have broken his leg, up following the foul by Leon Clarke, offered an apology to the Icelandic international.

'Obviously I did not realise that Aron Gunnarsson's injury was a bad one at the time and I am sorry for what happened,' he said.
