Laws Blasts Owls Failures

Wednesday boss Brian Laws insists his side got exactly what they deserved in the 4-1 thumping against Watford on Friday night.

The Owls suffered arguably their worst defeat of the season in front of the Sky TV cameras at Vicarage Road, and Laws was left to blast his troops, revealing he was 'bitterly disappointed' with his team.

Alarmingly, Laws also revealed in his post match press conference that his side failed to stick to the instructions given out to them, and gave away too many 'basic' mistakes.

'We were playing the type of football that is the opposite to what we are about,' Laws told the official SWFC website.

'We can play good football, we (usually) attack well and are creative but there was none of that today. In fact we got stuck in a rut and decided to go long. That's not the instructions I gave out today and I am bitterly disappointed with my lot.

'The team is making basic mistakes and that's something I can't stomach and I don't seem to be able to stop at the moment. The goals we are giving away are just ridiculous and Watford were walking through our defence like a hot knife through butter. It's not just about the back four; you defend from the front and players have to take responsibility.'

In contrast, Hornets boss Malky Mackay couldn't have been more delighted with his side's performance.

'The staff are absolutely delighted with the players' effort and application, they had the courage to go to these places [Middlebrough and Ipswich Town] and then come back home and put in a performance like that,' he told the official Watford website.

'We've had a lot travelling this week, we've got a small squad and had a couple of injuries but I think they've come out of the week great.'

Is it just me but doesn't this seem vaguely reminiscent of Sturrock's loss of temper following that 4-0 defeat at Colchester. He was gone within the week I seem to recall. Now I'm not saying that it's sacking time but BL has thrown his toys out of the pram once this season after the Derby game (without changing his team) and it got a result for one game, Purse mom etc. But then they lapsed into old habits (for this season), we muller Preston but lose 2-1 and get thrashed by Watford inspite of BL's pror warnings that we need to cut out defensive errors. I don't know if I'm stupid or vindictive, I'm trying to be objective and fair, but every time I watch the playbacks (on BBC i player) I see Purse consistently out of position, off the pace and throwing the defence out of shape. Our defence, so good last season, is now a joke. What's happened? There has been one change in the personel. Where can the blame possibly lay? Christ almighty the entire stadium can see it. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall. BL is sticking to his guns. Was it Peter Eustace who said "I'm the gaffer, I pick the team?" Isn't around now that we send for Sean Macauley to help BL see where he's going wrong? I can't help but feel that the acquisitions of Miller and Purse in the summer have done little to bolster the team but much to consume our scarce resources. BL thought he was strengthening midfield and defence (one area that obviously wasn't broke and shouldn't have been fixed) when we were all shouting for the acquisition of a goalscorer. Oh what's the use, it's going to be a long old season, I'm off for a drink.

The only thing that Miller and Purse have managed to do is drain money from the club that could have been better spent elsewhere.

Alright, next day, clear head. Have just watched the highlights of Friday's debacle and, even if it sounds unreasonable, I can hold my tongue no longer. Darren Purse is a f***ing shambles and if Brian Laws can't see it he isn't the man to manage Wednesday.

time for change i think now-couldnt agree more robc!!!! miller and purse werent the signings we needed and to be honest cant say that im that fussed about potter-his set piece taking has been diabolical for the past few matches so i think thats 3 bad signings in the summer!!! cantname anyone at the moment who could do a better job but i think its fair to say hes taken us as far as he can take us!!!!

I'm willing to give BL a chance but if he doesn't change things then we're in trouble and I think that will cost BL his job. We all wanted a striker in the summer and he didn't listen, we're all calling for Purse to be dropped. If BL doesn't listen and our results continue to be bad, well he'll have no-one to blame but himself. C'mon Mr Laws, open your eyes, watch the playbacks, look at the stats. It's not to late!

Darren Purse is total garbage, worst defender i have seen in many many years, Laws needs to drop him or we need to pray he does his cruciates in and goes away..other than that we need a good solid playmaker in the centre of the park, Waddle on the wing and Sir David Hirst up front..variation of tactics away from home on friday would have been a starter as well

purse has been pretty useless all season, but a little support for laws... i think purse would have been dropped for coventry had woody not been ill and hinds only half fit. since that game wood hasnt even made the bench and hinds isnt still fully match fit. unless we were to move spurr acorss from left back to the middle, then we had little other option. purse was diabolical against watford, as well miller (would much rather than had mcallister come on than miller), but let's not do what the blunts do and get on the manager's back as soon as we start losing a couple games. Laws has been our longest serving manager for quite some time, and rightfully so. KEEP THE FAITH!

Lads you are spot on Prse & Miller are w**k, old heads more old hasbeens get rid in jan also i have said it before on here BL is not the man to lead us back to the prem. we need someone who know the easter european market to get us a bargin, get rid of all the s**t in jan pyrse , miller , jeffers & o'conner they are of the standard we require. we need players with backbone hard working who will fight for us.

and a head like a coconut, O'Connors massively improved this year, along with Grant and Tudgay hes most important player. The midfields non-existant without him in there. Still can't believe people are serious when calling for Laws to be sacked, its daft

If you sack B.L like some of you want, then L.S will have to go as well, cos he ain't got no money to put into the club, and no manager is gonna come here and work on the same budget as B.L as done. lets face it we ain't ready for the premiership yet, without investment we are going nowhere only down, the players he's brought in may not be the players he wanted, but because of his budget he's had no choice, so if your looking for someone to blame Mr Straffords your man, and get off B.L back.

Blame Strafford? Why? Strafford has brought the club forward a long way in a short time off the field. The only thing that Strafford hasn't done is pump his own money into the club and lets be right why should he? The club needs to be self sufficient. Also in order to even attract investment this needs to be proven as why would anyone pour money into failing business? I know this is what goes on at Man City, Chelsea etc but the guys pouring money in there have very deep pockets and if they ever get bored then bye bye football club. We just need to accept that going up is not going to be easy and bleedin frustrating

The thing is H.Shinpads its near on a year that he took over the reigns, and we are no nearer getting investment now than when he first took over. And i think thats a cheap shot trying to get money out of us in february instead of mid june for S.T all because he's failed with investment, which he promised by 31st march this year.

if we get investment then all good, but as I said before nobody will invest in a failing business. Strafford has got to make the business viable which I believe he is doing. He perhaps shouldn't have given that deadline. Turning it round is a long term proposition and we will be lucky if we get improvement on the pitch before the club is making decent money so we need to stick with it cos there are too many fly by night's who could sell us down the river if we let them in. Ashley at Newcastle has hardly set the world on fire with his investment has he?
