Laws Blasts Owls Failures

Laws Blasts Owls Failures

Wednesday boss Brian Laws insists his side got exactly what they deserved in the 4-1 thumping against Watford on Friday night.

The Owls suffered arguably their worst defeat of the season in front of the Sky TV cameras at Vicarage Road, and Laws was left to blast his troops, revealing he was 'bitterly disappointed' with his team.

Alarmingly, Laws also revealed in his post match press conference that his side failed to stick to the instructions given out to them, and gave away too many 'basic' mistakes.

'We were playing the type of football that is the opposite to what we are about,' Laws told the official SWFC website.

'We can play good football, we (usually) attack well and are creative but there was none of that today. In fact we got stuck in a rut and decided to go long. That's not the instructions I gave out today and I am bitterly disappointed with my lot.

'The team is making basic mistakes and that's something I can't stomach and I don't seem to be able to stop at the moment. The goals we are giving away are just ridiculous and Watford were walking through our defence like a hot knife through butter. It's not just about the back four; you defend from the front and players have to take responsibility.'

In contrast, Hornets boss Malky Mackay couldn't have been more delighted with his side's performance.

'The staff are absolutely delighted with the players' effort and application, they had the courage to go to these places [Middlebrough and Ipswich Town] and then come back home and put in a performance like that,' he told the official Watford website.

'We've had a lot travelling this week, we've got a small squad and had a couple of injuries but I think they've come out of the week great.'

Is it just me but doesn't this seem vaguely reminiscent of Sturrock's loss of temper following that 4-0 defeat at Colchester. He was gone within the week I seem to recall. Now I'm not saying that it's sacking time but BL has thrown his toys out of the pram once this season after the Derby game (without changing his team) and it got a result for one game, Purse mom etc. But then they lapsed into old habits (for this season), we muller Preston but lose 2-1 and get thrashed by Watford inspite of BL's pror warnings that we need to cut out defensive errors. I don't know if I'm stupid or vindictive, I'm trying to be objective and fair, but every time I watch the playbacks (on BBC i player) I see Purse consistently out of position, off the pace and throwing the defence out of shape. Our defence, so good last season, is now a joke. What's happened? There has been one change in the personel. Where can the blame possibly lay? Christ almighty the entire stadium can see it. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall. BL is sticking to his guns. Was it Peter Eustace who said "I'm the gaffer, I pick the team?" Isn't around now that we send for Sean Macauley to help BL see where he's going wrong? I can't help but feel that the acquisitions of Miller and Purse in the summer have done little to bolster the team but much to consume our scarce resources. BL thought he was strengthening midfield and defence (one area that obviously wasn't broke and shouldn't have been fixed) when we were all shouting for the acquisition of a goalscorer. Oh what's the use, it's going to be a long old season, I'm off for a drink.

The only thing that Miller and Purse have managed to do is drain money from the club that could have been better spent elsewhere.

at least the piglets have had 4 put past them at home today :)

Alright, next day, clear head. Have just watched the highlights of Friday's debacle and, even if it sounds unreasonable, I can hold my tongue no longer. Darren Purse is a f***ing shambles and if Brian Laws can't see it he isn't the man to manage Wednesday.

time for change i think now-couldnt agree more robc!!!! miller and purse werent the signings we needed and to be honest cant say that im that fussed about potter-his set piece taking has been diabolical for the past few matches so i think thats 3 bad signings in the summer!!! cantname anyone at the moment who could do a better job but i think its fair to say hes taken us as far as he can take us!!!!
25/10/2009 16:02:00
I'm willing to give BL a chance but if he doesn't change things then we're in trouble and I think that will cost BL his job. We all wanted a striker in the summer and he didn't listen, we're all calling for Purse to be dropped. If BL doesn't listen and our results continue to be bad, well he'll have no-one to blame but himself. C'mon Mr Laws, open your eyes, watch the playbacks, look at the stats. It's not to late!
