Angry Laws Transfer Lists Wood

Wednesday defender Richard Wood has been slapped on the transfer market by boss Brian Laws today.

Laws is angry that Wood, one of the Owls best performers so far this season, is demanding too much money on a new contract, something the club can't afford.

And the Owls boss has acted quickly by putting the Wakefield-born centre-back on the transfer market as Wednesday look to cash in on the 24-year-old in the January transfer window.

Wood's current deal runs out next summer and Wednesday would prefer to sell Wood in January before losing him for nothing come the end of the season.

The contract despute has been long running, and Wood's future at the club looked in doubt after Coventry City raised their interest in him.

A former club captain, Wood could now go out on loan with view to a permanent move in January, and is unlikely to get his place back in the Owls starting eleven.

Dont blame him one single bit that he wants a bit more cash. He's been shafted as far as having the captaincy taken off of him and given to a useless waste of space.

He had the captaincy took off him beacause he asked for a transfer last season and has so far refused to sign a new contract. He is now trying to hold the club to ransom which can't be allowed to happen. Laws has done the right thing and listed him. No player is bigger than the club no matter how good he is.

bad news.... let's just hope laws brings in a replacement if/when wood leaves, rather than let purse continue to deteriorate the whole of the defence

According to official website he wants to be our highest paid player, which means he wants over 10k a week. Sorry but he's not good enough for that, so I agree that we have to get rid now. Who else forsees Wood going to lane if Kilgallon goes in January?

Should have given him a new contract in the summer, even if it did make him the club's highest earner. If we hadn't have signed Purse, we could have paid Wood that bit extra instead of wasting it on a useless piece of s***. Purse was run ragged on Friday night and I'm one Owl that would like to see someone else playing there. He will probably go to the Blunts in January and we will more than likely get in a Centre Midfielder that we don't need

Personally, I couldn't care less when players leave in situations like this. He knows the financial situation at the club and he must live in cloud cuckoo land if he really regards himself as the best player at the club. Of course, I'd rather half a Wood than Darren Purse at the moment but I'm more than a little tired of these constant stories of wood wanting to leave for one reason or another. Simply, he's not committed to Wednesday and only prepared to stay if he's paid a ransom. That's no reason to keep him. I say let's give Beever's and Hind's a chance before they decide to follow suit.

So let me get this straight CLIFFANDJ, your telling me that Purse coming to the club and being made captain wasnt the reason he lost it ? We are losing or should I say ARE going to lose our best defender so far this season, and everyone seems to be ok with that. And the reason the club cant pay him any nore is that they would rather waste the money on the fraud that is now our club captain.

Skeggy the reason I said Woods lost the captaincy was nothing to do with Purse (who I agree is a waste of money). I actually think Laws bought Purse because he could see the writing on the wall as far as Woods was concerned and that he was going to leave. The reason Woods lost the captaincy was due to Woods himself - he had demonstrated his lack of commitment to the club by asking for a transferand made no effort to sign a new contract. It would have sent out the wrong message to keep him as captain. One of the reasons we are in so much debt now is because we have been saddled with playes on vast salaries who were not worth it. If I am being honest, if there was a reasonable way that we could get Woods to stay then fair enough but at the end of the day the club has to be run as a business and we can't just let the wage bill spiral out of control.

At the end of the day, the guy's not worth around 12k a week. He's a decent header of the ball, but lacks serious pace and is not comfortable on the deck. For 12k a week i'd want a defender that was pretty good at all those attributes.

I know for a fact it was an easy choice for the powers that be at Hillsborough. It was a case of keep our star striker happy and pay him what he wants or keep hold of our best defender. Woody has been labelled as a money grabber but nobody said a thing when Marcus was renegotiating his contract !

Skeggy are you seriously suggesting that Woods deserves to be paid more than Tudgay? If so you are seriously deluded. If you read what Laws has said - Woods was asking for a salary that would have made him comfortably the highest paid player at the club which is ridiculous. Oh and one other big difference between Woods & Tudgay - Tudgay signed his contract.

Cliff I am not saying that Woody deserves to be paid the same as Marcus. I know for a fact what the club was willing to pay him, I also know for a fact that a deal has been done with the Pigs for him to go there. Im not putting it on here but if you want details PM me and I'll let you see the proof. Oh and Cliff yes Tudgay did sign his contract, but that was only after the game him more money. So does this not say that Woody was not the only one that was being greedy.

Get him out fast, one bad apple will rot the barrell, he's clearly wanted to leave for ages, before and whilst he was captain so that's committment for you! Laws would have been stupid keeping him as captain when he clearly wanted out and was refusing a new contract so those saying Wednesday and Laws have forced him out are muppets and are talking nonsense. Wood and his agent knew what they were asking for wasn't a figure Wednesday could reach so have forced Wednesday's hand, I suspect if Wednesday had called their bluff and met their demands they probably would have been shocked and refused to sign anyway!

Also, don't compare this with Tudders situation as it was completely different, Tudders never said he wanted to leave and has never shown a lack of committment to Wednesday, the same can't be said of Wood. Also, Tudders is one of the best players in the Championship and worth fighting to keep, Wood is not!

I couldn't agree with sussexowl more. It's simple - Wood is asking for money that he knows Wednesday can't afford. What has he really done to regard himself as the best player at the club? I know Darren Purse has helped to make Wood look like John Terry so far this season and if he was, he might have a case asking for silly money - but he isn't! he is a decent player but has limitations and I agree with Laws in that Woods isn't irreplaceable or anywhere near it. At the end of the day, he just wants to leave and earn more money - what kind of Wednesday fan wants a player like that to stay?

He's in the same mould as Leigh Bromby and alan Quinn so I expect i fthe opportunity arises he will sign for the pigs (even though they are only one place above us with a worse GD!) Wood's situation can in no way be compared with Tudgay's! Tudgay was being courted by a premier league club (albeit Burnly!) Wood has been linked with Coventry! Evry club in the Championship now is just gonna hang out till the end of the season anyway and get him on a free so listed or not he wont go in Jan in my opinion?? He thinks he's bigger than Wednesday and so did Brombeigh and look at him now! doesnt he own an estate agent or something!!??!! As long as BL buys a replacement with what money we might get I dont mind if he stays, goes or becomes a ball boy! If BL does not buy another CB and buys another CM then we're screwed!! So to sum up, really not arsed!!
