Spurr Turns Captain Marvel

Wednesday left-back Tommy Spurr was handed the captain's armband for the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the weekend, the second time the youngster has been given the honour.

Spurr, whose home kit is sponsored by none other than Vital Sheffield Wednesday, took over from Darren Purse at Ashton Gate yesterday.

It was the second time the Owls Academy product was given the armband, and it was a second match without defeat with Tommy as captain.

Tommy was first handed the captain's armband in February when Wednesday ran out 2-0 winners over Crystal Palace at Hillsborough, that time replacing Richard Wood as skipper.

Could it be a sign of things to come, with Woody on his way out of S6 and Purse seemingly unable to get his place back, for the time being at least.

Richard Hinds, James O'Connor and Marcus Tudgay are other names in the starting eleven that could well take on the captain's armband.

But Tommy is likely to continue the role on Saturday when Q.P.R. are the visitors to Hillsborough.
