Laws' High Hopes For Owls Investment

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is just as desperate for investment in Wednesday as the fans as he looks to continue improving his cut-price squad.

Laws celebrates his third anniversary in the Wednesday hotseat this week and is hoping that the next three years will see a huge progression in the financial situation at S6.

Investment has been the buzz word for Wednesdayites for many years, but Laws is keen for the process for a cash injection for players to come sooner rather than later to help speed up the ultimate goal of sending the Owls to the Premier League.

Laws is still confident of success without the right investment, but insists it'll be a lot slower without the added aid of financial backing.

'Since I have been here, we have taken steps forward. I believe the club has now stabilised and is in desperate need of new finance to kick it on. I would like to be here a lot longer to be part of that,' he told the Yorkshire Post.

'It will progress without new investment,' he added. 'But the progress will be slow and not as quick as people want.'

The Owls gaffer says he has 'hardly spent anything' since his arrival at the helm from Scunthorpe United three years ago.

It's likely to be more of the same in the January transfer window as Wednesday limp along in mid-table of the Championship.

Here we go again. At the start of the season we're told to be optimistic and buy a season ticket because have a team good enough for the play-offs. Now we should be happy with mid-table because we don't have the money of others, which really means that results haven't gone as expected so now we get the same old tired excuses. I still want the top 6 I was promised at the beginning of the season when the investment would help but wasn't the main issue.

i thought we were buying season tickets up so we could give lawsy more to spend on players so we could build a better team for the playoffs. i dont remember a promise of top 6.
stealthyowl
yes but stealthy has he had any money to spend??? no, weve got miller n purse on free transfers (two players we dont need)
smiggyswfc
'hardly spent anything' erm.. 700k on jeffers

We need cash but letís face it it's coming anytime soon so letís just get on with it. If we had money BL would be gone fact he's tactically inept & made some bad buys anyone give me an outstanding buy please.
HorburyOwl
That should have said the moneys NOT coming anytime soon
HorburyOwl
all i'm saying is that at least our club has balanced financials unlike what was said on radio sheffield last night by mcabe that they have "signifficant club debt" and when they asked was it over £10m he paused and said "signifficantly over". at least we know where we are financially and can go from there whether money comes in or not
stealthyowl
HorburyOwl - Lee Grant!
owl1
I thought the £10m he mentioned was the wage bill ? Might be wrong but I'm sure he said that.
markjswfc
3 years at the club and one good signing in lee grant, maybe could throw hinds in there as hes steady, other than that its been pretty average.
smiggyswfc
true that smiggy! the only other remotely decent players are JJ or EE?!? even then your pushing it "on their day!"
Owls That!
Owl1 lol Grant ok but not great I said outstanding pressman Hodge & woods they were OUTSTANDING not ok m8 des walker, Carbone, waddle Mel zico sterland mick lions (do you know who he is) the list goes on we are just pants who remembers the sell out crowds we used to pull come lads for f-sake
HorburyOwl
Wow Horbury - I really think that you need a realitly check. withthe exception of Sterland, we paid more for every one of those players than BL has been able to spend on any individual. How the hell can you blame him for that! I would rather have Grant today than Hodge in his later years any time Incidentally, if David Pleat had not decided to dimantle a good and succesful squad early (Hirst, Waddel etc) and relplace it with foreigners (Carbone, Di Canio, Blondeau, Jonk etc) who looked pretty, but we striggled in the league, then we probably would not be in the situation that we are right now!!!

You need money to bring in good players and serious prospect of promotion to bring in good free transfers. There are not many managers out there even with a massive budget that can spot outstanding players, i think a lot of it is luck (Wenger the expection). Personally, i am a fan of Laws, primarily for the possession passing play that we try, and the progression of academy players (Beevers/Spurr/McAllister). Win tomorrow, and were back on track! Agree that Purse was a bad as captain, good squad player, but Spurr for captain!
owl1
agree with you 100% owl1
dobby1
Dobby1 & owl1 if you read the first of my rants which has you havenít I said the moneys not coming any time soon so get on with it! I agree with the fact the player I said cost more than our whole squad & that if David bleat had not sold our better players we would not be here now. But we are we must live with it. We could have a good nullius of a decent squad grant, simek, Beevers, Spurr & Tudgay but apart from grant none of these are BLís players the money heís wasted on the rubbish we currently have is not on I like his passion but feel that tactically including player acquisition heís not up to the job but as I have said we just need to get on with it. Up the owls

dave bassett spent nothing at united, and got us through the divisions and into the big time, nw also did this not to the same extent but nevertheless on a shoe string budget.....so what's the difference?.........stop moaning
bladesforlife1889
just for recored it was the player wage bill that was over 10m..not the debt..as for you lot having balanced financial figures,,,,your having a right laugh yeh?you are debt ridden which is why no one wants to come in and buy the club...you lot owe money out all over the place!!! the deby at BDTBL is very very good probably the best in the whole division which is why we are pushing out luck a bit with the 5th largest wage bill in this division
bladesforlife1889
well it's taken a pig to say what i have been saying for a while it pains me to say that but it's true, burnley last year spent next to nothing it can be done lads howard could do it i'm sure.
HorburyOwl
out of interest.....burnley spent 5m last year the most they have spent on players in one season in their entire history
