Our man on the spot, gudetehowl, provides his player ratings from the weekend.
Grant - 7/10
Can remember one moment of nervousness when it looked like he had caught the ball then it bounced up in front of him, but he got down to shots OK and did what he could.
Buxton - 7/10
Didn't do too bad, looked a little indecisive at times but seeing as he is a right back that can only be expected. We saw again how he lacked pace but he showed good commitment to the cause and chased things down.
Simek - 6/10
It was great to see him back, but his marking was awful and he wasn't aware of anything that was happening. He put in some good tackles though, which broke up attacks and bailed others out.
Hinds - 8/10 - MoTM
Best player on the park in my opinion, cleared things up, showed commitment going for headers and kept a cool head. Minimised mistakes and looked comfortable there. Certainly staked his claim for the position.
Spurr - 6.5/10
Just seemed invisible for a lot of the game, got beaten by his opponent a bit but put in some OK challenges.
Johnson - 8/10
Well taken goal. In the first half we didn't give him enough of the ball, he was standing there in acres of space and never got it. Showed his pace again but after his goal became a little greedy and made a mess of some situations.
Potter - 6/10
Put some good passes in and supplied people well but just hasn't got the size or strength to challenge for anything.
O'Connor - 6/10
Battled hard, but lacked height strength and pace, the three attributes we needed from a defensive midfielder when playing against Simpson and co.
Miller - 6.5/10
Playing in the wrong position, looked out of place and although he put some good link up play in, I thought he shouldnt have been out on the wing: we should have started him in the centre and put Macca out wide.
Tudgay - 7/10
Looked like he had given up towards the end, and who can blame him? When your best player gives up then you know you're in trouble. For the most of the game he ran and ran as he usually does, won tackles and headers in midfield where the two centre midfields should have been winning the balls. Good performance, but didn't get in goal scoring positions.
Varney - 5.5/10
Didn't bother jumping most of the time, looked like he didn't want to be there and should have been taken off. I could be a bit biased here as I dont rate him, but it was a poor performance from him.
Clarke - 5/10
Lacked pace but put his weight around a lot and pushed through there defense. The balls to him weren't good enough but at the same time some of his running into positions was awful.
McAllister - 5/10
Just don't know why we put him on the wing. He didnt make an impact and looked lost.
Wood - 4/10
Should have done a lot better for the goal and for what he did when he came on, I'll be glad to cash in on him.
After we went down to the first goal, we looked a good team going forward; when we scored I thought we could score another. But after the second goal went in, we just looked deflated. We made the worst substitutions possible, Macca wasn't good enough and Esajas should have been brought on with Sodje, and Beevers instead of Wood.
