Sturrock Targets Carson Deal

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is hoping Wednesday can agree a deal with Liverpool to secure to services of England Under-21 'keeper Scott Carson on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old former Leeds stopper helped the Owls to Championship safety after joining on loan in March. Carson has produced a number of man of the match appearances - resulting in the Owls losing just one game in the nine he's played this season.

Carson is well down the pecking order at Anfield with Reina and Dudek both fighting for the number one jersey at the Merseyside club. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will want his young third choice 'keeper to get some vital first team experience before throwing him in to the first team at the current European Champions.

Sturrock has made it clear a loan deal for Carson is a priority for the forthcoming season and is set to do everything in his powers to get his man, after Owls chairman Dave Allen announced a higher wage budget for 2006/2007.

Wednesday are likely to face tough competition from other clubs for Carson, but with the former Leeds man quoted as saying he loves playing at Hillsborough and that he's been treated well by the Owls - Sturrock will surely have the advantage in the race for his signature.
