D-Day For Owls' Loan Deals

Wednesday fans will today find out whether boss Brian Laws has bolstered his lowly squad with loan deals in time for the hectic Christmas schedule.

Today, at 5pm, is the deadline for securing loan deals until the transfer window re-opens for permanent and loan deals in January.

And Laws will be hard at work in his Middlewood Road training ground office trying to secure a loan striker and another player ahead of Saturday's home clash against league leaders West Brom.

Laws has already announced that he missed out on one Arsenal youngster after Arsene Wenger insisted he was keen to use his youngsters in the Carling Cup rather than send them out on loan to the Championship.

Stoke City's Tom Soares has also been linked with a loan move to S6, while Cardiff's Northern Ireland striker Warren Feeney has emerged the most likely to pen a deal at S6 today.

Keep your eyes on Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest transfer activity on loan deadline day.

Why the hell is BL trying to get in a midfielder to 'play in the middle or out wide'? I think that midfield is the least of our problems as we have plenty of cover there. Get in a striker that is gonna find the net more than twice in 2 months. Shame to say it but maybe it's time for BL to move on??? Plot = lost

get ready for no one or a nobody

i'll play if they buy me some boots!!

Im actually interested to see who its gonna be, if anyone. Not cos im excited cos I think its gonna be a good player but because im interested to see what BL manages to come up with. I bet its some washed up has been who he thinks can "do a good job for us". *********.

Im seriously sick of the ***** that comes through our club. If he doesnt bring anyone in or if they are no better than the current lot of players im 100% on the "time for BL to go" bandwagon.
Danigol_10_SWFC
Oh, and Lee "BUY SEASON TICKETS" Strafford will have a lot to answer for too.
Danigol_10_SWFC
look slike its feeney fotr the striker-in all honesty i cant see how hes going to better our squad-weve got a unfot striker that doesnt get in to the 1st team in akpo so y not just bring him back??? this is getting like a huge joke now!!!!! and if feeney is the best calibre player he can get, well it says it all!!!
supersibon
All the "managers" are out again. I'm no big fan of Feeney & maybe we will end up with someone different but thats what you get when you have no cash. I'm interested, who would you bring in & how much do you think they would ask for in wages (assuming here that they come on free loan).
wed1867
Wed1867. No cash we may have but does that mean we have to waste what little there is. How much have we thrown away on Purse and Jeffers? If Feeney will bring nothing to Wednesday that isn't already here (non scoring strikers, until we send them out on loan and they actually get to play) then what is the point of throwing good money away just to have a little movement in the transfer market (for a month). I'd rather BL sign no-one than waste the cash.
robc
So, who would you try to sign?
wed1867
feeney signing confirmed...

Since you ask Wed1867, please don't accuse me of playing manager. I wouldn't sign anyone. There is no point signing a player unless he provides something we don't already have. What does Wednesday lack, a goalscorer would seem to be obvious. Unfortunately proven goalscorers rarely come available on loan and, as you have said, we have no money with which to buy one. So we have to examine what's wrong with our team. At the moment we have two forwards, Varney and Tudgay, who are of a similar stature, similar style and, unfortunately for us, have a similar goalscoring record this season. So what are our options? On the bench we have Jeffers (skilled but lacks commitment and has lost the fans), Leon (eratic, can be woeful, can be brilliant but in general better coming off the bench to tie up winning games), Akpo (out on loan but still our player, scored in first game on loan, looks appaling on the ball but provides something we lack, when he plays), JJ(officially a winger but second top scorer, one goal behind Tudgay, JJ lacks the bravery and commitment to make a forward but otherwise has all the attributes), Esajas (again a winger, has scored 3 goals but barely played 3 games). If you are asking me what I would do, well I'd stick to 4-4-2, experiment with Sodje and Leon up front (which would provide strength and height up front) and JJ and Esajas on each wing. In the middle I'd give O'Connor half a game to run himself into the ground breaking up opposition moves (replace him with McAllister at half time for the same role), next to him would be Gray or Potter (haven't made up my mind), back 4 of Frankie, Hinds, Beevers and Spurr, with Grant in goal. There you go. Please don't accuse me of being a would be manager, you asked what I would do.
robc
I agree Rob. Why waste money on players who wont add anything to the team? My thoughts would be to recall Sodje, get Soares in on loan and put young Nathan Modest into the first team picture. I'd also send Varney back to Derby.
Danigol_10_SWFC
Agreed on Varney, what's the betting we sign him?
robc
as i keep saying, KPS had no money but brought in quality, BL has not done this on a bigger budget.1867 the team should be grant, simek, beevers, hinds, spurr, JJ, macallister, soares, EE, tudgay and jeffers. its simple feeney should be nowhere near s i think clarke and sodje are both better (not good enough but better)
smiggyswfc
Your team seriously lacks aphysical presence beyond the back four, Smiggy. Old fashioned view about needing the big feller but it's working for Newcastle.
