'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Laws Blasts Owls Flops

Wednesday boss Brian Laws unsurprisingly blasted his failing troops following the 4-0 home demolition by high-flying West Brom at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Laws took plenty of the blame following the biggest home defeat for some time for Wednesdayites, but also blasted his squad and called for the 'basics' to be address in training.

'Quite simply, that wasn't good enough,' the Owls boss told the official SWFC website.

'We played a top team and to get a result against a top team you have to turn up; you have to be at the races; you have to play to your potential and at your maximum because if you don't that's what you get.

'We let ourselves down and we let the supporters down. It was pretty even in the first 20 minutes but the warning signs were there. We have been working hard to make sure we don't concede from set plays and you should never allow any team to score with a volley inside the six-yard box. That was unacceptable and it proved to be the turning point in the game. They then got into their stride and made life very difficult for us but we cannot carry anybody and I have to say none of my players came out of the match with any credit today.'

Laws now has a week to try and put things right on the training pitch before next Saturday's huge relegation clash against fellow strugglers Reading at Hillsborough.
