Laws Leaves Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have this morning announced that Brian Laws has departed the club by mutual consent.

The announcement comes following a winless run of eight games, and yesterday's pitiful performance at Leicester was the final nail in Laws' coffin.

Assistant Russ Wilcox and coach John Dungworth also leave the club.

Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford made the announcement on the Official Website this morning.

Sean McAuley will take charge of first-team affairs, as Wednesday begin their search for a new manager immediately.

There are already a few contenders for the job. Nigel Worthington is stalling on contract talks with Northern Ireland, could the former Owl return home?

Darren Ferguson and George Burley are both out of work.

Chris Waddle always states his interest in the job too.

This decision will have a huge bearing on the future of our club, and the right man needs to be appointed to halt the Owls' slide, and to take us forward.

Who would you like to see as the new manager?

Its a shame but i think the rite decission, givs us time to get out of this hole.I think for defo he'd lost the dressing room and the players didnt perform for him.Gudluck Brian and no doubt which ever team u manage i knw u will come back to haunt us.Well boys onwards n upwards merry xmas my fellow wednesdayites.
ollyowl70
Now who?
the fear
Well Sean McAuley for now,but out of choices above i think Goerge Burley is poss best choice.
ollyowl70
No surprise. I feel sorry for the bloke as he is a nice fella but he had run out of ideas and had to go.
CLIFFANDJ
joke. no wonder we are a laughing stock
wedtillidie
my money is on darren ferguson.
owlswfc
Let's give MacAuley a chance as the caretaker and not rush into a contract that will tie the clubs hands. Merry Christmas Olly and Wednesdayites everywhere. Time to change that poll Vital.
robc
Id go for Nigel Worthington
Handsworth Owl
feel for brian has done a good job since his arrival, but its about results and thats somthing we hav nt been getting ,id go for steve copell hes been about a bit ,he would get us up there
donnyowl
i agree with robc don't rush in give mcauley job if need be till end off season .Feel for laws but results and performances have been woeful off late and he has used loan market poorly in my opinion on top off rubish signings.
beverley owl
I wouldn't be upset if they went for the Donny manager.
CLIFFANDJ
I'll add to what many have said... sad to see BL go, bless him. He's a great guy. Couldn't be at the match, but from what I heard on the radio, even if we're in the bottom three, our fans should be up for automatic promotion! UP THE OWLS!
YankeeOwl
I think its time to switch brians. Although he didn't do very well across the city we should give Bryan Robson a shot.
Radon Barrier
Have you lost your mind Radon!
CLIFFANDJ
bryan robson???????? never
bradford_owl
sorry brian but it was the right decision. burley has been poor since he left ipswich.ferguson did well with money but is unproven at this level - worthington would be a safe pair of hands and is favorite in my book
priestley
Tis the season too be jolly. I'm joking of course. Warnock is the man.
Radon Barrier
Radon are you a pig mate? Howard is my man for the job with Mcauley as his no2. Sorry Brian you had to go mate: up the owls!
HorburyOwl
because he left on a mutual consent does that mean he's not been paid out.... my moneys on worthington but theres a dozen managers out there, and thats not including h.wilkinson. please not milkinson please
owl25
i meant wilkinson.
owl25
mutual consent means they agreed on a compensation package probably smaller than paying up his contract
bradford_owl
radon why do you keep suggesting ex blades as manager? ive had my suspicions about you for a while, i think you are a piggy!!!!!
ozzietheowl
Still joking horbury. There are lots of options out there. Mcauley has to be given a shot. Last time it wasn't just the results but the way we played. Not as good a squad and more pressure this time. Must give him longer to see if last time was a fluke. If is wasn't then he is the man. End of.
Radon Barrier
we havnt got time to see if last time was a fluke or not, get someone inn who has no ties with the recent squad, and give these players the biggest shake up theyve ever had. and get them performing.
owl25
steve coppell
Norman
Only just noticed your post ozzie. I just like to take the****. With regards being an owl I would take the pepsi challenge with you any day big fella. Getting back to the manager debate. What's adrian heath up too these days.
Radon Barrier
I think coppell is the number 1 candidate, head and shoulders above the rest
smiggyswfc
radon why not go for the full house with harry bassett lol we could't afford berty fecking bassatt bring howard down to help McAuley see how it goes sell all our ***** in the window get in some lads that have passion!
HorburyOwl
Got to be Coppell. Darren Ferguson would be like appointing Brian Laws again I feel. We need someone who is experienced at this level and that is Coppell. Laws top man feel bit sorry for him how it all ended and the players have been a disgrace to him recently in my view he obvioulsy lost the dressing room.
jamesc1905
I have to agree with Owl25... I think the squad needs a massive shake up and kick up the a**e and somebody with no ties to the club is the right person to do just that! Although Waddle is a legend at Hillsborough i don't think he'd cut it, Ferguson and Burley have not really shown enough of late so Worthington or Coppell would be the best choice i believe... i think Worthington has been away long enough to be classed as not having any ties with the squad and Coppell is pretty well proven at this level... Shame Warnock is an ex piggy cus he'd be perfect to shake 'em up but then we also have to remember that whoever comes in can't be expecting big money wages which may cause a stumbling block!
WestyOwl7
i can't see coppell joining. he doesn't need to prove himself at this level and he has said he has one last job in him - so why would he take on wednesday? i'd like to see ferguson or burley. both use youth players and lower league players to build their side and not PL cast offs!!
jim_owl
I will take darren ferguson or keith hill from rochdale, he's a proper character which is what we need. Dont really want worthington, hardly call him safe. You never know, if they get ferguson, fergie snr might loan us out some scum.
Darth lovespuds
ferguson wouldnt get my vote, he hasnt got the experience nor the prvoen record at this level. i'd go for coppell first then worthington. dont know if we could afford coppell or he would even be interested though?! it definately was the right time for laws to go, who ever does come in now has go to get it right. team selection for a start, get sodje back, and give esajas and beevers a run in the side!!
OWL-4EVA
just checkin radon!
