Hillsborough Picked For World Cup Bid

Hillsborough has been picked as part of England's 2018 World Cup bid after beating off competition from a number of other stadia, including Bramall Lane.

Sheffield has been picked as a potential host city for the prestigious event, with Hillsborough beating Bramall Lane to stage matches.

London, Manchester, Sunderland, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Bristol and Plymouth have also been picked as part of the bid.

'I have no doubt that this process has strengthened our bid considerably,' Football League and selection panel chairman Lord Mawhinney told BBC Sport.

'There is a temptation to think of bids in terms of just stadia but we have spent a long time talking about travelling, accommodation and security and the decision we have made constitutes a composite of all the criteria that goes towards what makes a good host city.'

Fantastic news and even better for investors looking at the club with a chance of World Cup football coming to Hillsborough. I do feel sorry for the pigs...........................................................NOT! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!

well celebrations in sheffield. well done to hillsborough, now we've got the nod the stadium can start to be built. and well done bramall lane now we can start work on the redevelopment of bramall lane and make it a big multi story car park with a park and right to hillsborough hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Strange, that this coincides with news of a 20M investment in the Star today. Maybe, just maybe this was the news investors were waiting for (to own a stadium used at the world cup would be nice!) or maybe, just more Bu***hit!

Common sense has prevailed. Hillsborough was always a more attractive proposition than Bramall Lane. The transport links are second to none, Bramall Lane's major flaw (apart from the seats facing the pitch) is it is in the city centre. Hillsborough has the jewel in the crown with Hillsborough Park on the doorstep.

Fantastic news. Although the ground needs a bit of tlc it is clearly better the lane. I don't think the lane is any better than oakwell. Always seems small to me. One of the stands in particular. I am well happy about this.

bitter & twisted...proves the FA hate us for showing them up. interesting as sufc were going to redevelop the ground for the world cup with their own money..... and now wendy are going to improve their shed with tax payers money because you *****s are so skint!! it's a discrace....lets be fair england arn't guna get the world cup anyway and by 2018 wendy probably won't exist then!!
