Toon Time For Beevers?

Young Wednesday defender Mark Beevers is being linked with a possible move to Newcastle United on our sister site, Vital Newcastle United.

The Geordies are scouting another defender across the Steel City in Matt Kilgallon, but could well turn their attentions to Beevers to bolster their squad in January.

The Owls Academy product has somewhat lost his way since breaking onto the scene in emphatic style and winning the Owls' player of the year award.

But he could still be a key player as Wednesday look to climb away from the Championship relegation spots before the end of the season.

Beevers could well be one of a few players at the club that attract the interest of other clubs though, and the Owls could well look to cash in if investment doesn't come sooner rather than later.

Oh that's a good idea, lets sell all our best players and keep the crap and then waste what little money we have made on some other players that cant get a game anywhere else. This is serious!!

Don't worry, I can't think of a single reason why Beevers would want to leave Wednesday to join Newcastle....and anyway...we've got Darren Purse.

i can think of a handful of reasons why he'd want to leave wednesday-better wage, better quality of squad, probably be in prem next season just to name a few. think id terminate let purses leave on a free if the investment comes!!!!

I suspect that baldowl was being sarcastic! I think that we all know the reality. Every few months we see the same comments about investment and it always leads to optimism. I really hope it happens, but this time I just can't see it. I may be being more pessimistic than I should be at this toime of year, but I have a horrible feeling that the club knows how low morale is amongst the fans and they are trying to whip up a bit of false optimism. I hope that I am wrong and nobody will be happier than me if this turns out ot be the case!

I fear the worse and like i said i dont think low moral had anything to do with Laws its the board but on the brightside next season we might get a play off final i had a great time in Cardiff last time, maybe the big investment is going to be the sale of Beavers Tudgay and Grant in Jan

We have enough to worry about with what has happened this season so far - let alone worrying about what the papers are saying might happen. The papers also said Walter Smith to wednesday - me thinks they may have been at the christmas sherry!

Wouldnt blame him if he went to be honest and I wouldnt be too bothered if he left either!! Whenever i've seen him play, which is admittidely on the cameras, he always looks shakey and the 18 year old he is! Mind due, that is because he's only 18 so no doubt is still learning and will one day be an excellent defender which is more the reason to keep him! However, Wednesday are renowned for nurturing talent and then *****ing it up the wall so toodle loo Mr Beevers!!
Owls That!

Beavers has cost Wednesday dearly this season along with Purse and rest of back 4.The guy is young and maybe needs a few more years on his back but im still not sure he has any quality and his definately not helping Wednesdays survival case. But same goes for the rest of our defence been a lot this season and is comical at times even the basics!!

you know what? It must be Christmas becasue I woke up looking forward to boxing day. I know it is a long shot and this sounds a bit crazy, but I feel a littel bit of hope. It will be great to see Hillsborough with a proper big crowd and a loads of noise!!!!!

The old saying 'pay peanuts get monkeys' springs to mind! The way people go on it's as if Laws had millions to spend and squandered it on rubbish. The finances Laws had means the market he was operating in results in having to take a gamble on players very few other teams want, sometimes this comes off but sometimes, more often as it proved, it doesn't. Alex Ferguson has spent millions in the past on players that haven't worked out(Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Veron, Forlan etc etc) which shows that it doesn't matter whether you've got millions to spent or next to nothing, new players you bring in don't always work although the more you spend the lower the gamble. Unfortunately games like Player Manager, Fifa 10 etc make us all think it's much easier managing a football team than it actually is, sometimes a reality check is needed. I for one think we'll look back one day and regret letting Laws go.

Regret letting Laws go?? Can't see that happening. His time was well overdue and its total nonsense to keep hiding behind the limited funds issue at Wednesday. It's not like he was the only manager in this division with next to nothing to spend but he bought crap, loaned crap with our limited money and didn't even play them. Relegation zone, can't win, can't score, can't defend and performances were getting worse not better. No regrets from me.

regret letting him go, the only regret i have is that it wasnt done sooner!!!! he did have money, fair enough not much but what he had he just blew on absolute rubbish. potter was a seriously bad signing, he doesnt contribute to a game in my opinon. and i dont need to say why he shouldnt have got purse. he spent 3/4 of a million on jeffers SURELY that could have been better spent and there have been players that have been available for small money or even available for free that could have improved our squad more.

untill money comes in we will always be doing what we have been doing for years pass the blame to the manager yes jeffers bad signing and like sussex owl says some of the best managers make mistakes on signings its not just a case of who we can afford its also who wants to come to us which really narrows it down, the job at s6 is one of the hardest in football and i am sure Laws will do fine at his next club and just hope if he comes to visit us we treat him with respect. Maybe boxing day will be the day take over is announced? or maore likely not but supposed to be Jan and if nothing happens then Strafford should walk. Pigforce go on your own website and grunt you dream of having a stadium like ours.
