Shearer Linked With Owls Post

Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer has been linked with the vacant manager's position at Wednesday in today's tabloids.

Shearer, who has little experience in management having taken charge of hometown team Newcastle at the end of last season, has been linked with the position in The Sun today.

And Sheffield United man Gary Speed has also been linked with a move across the city as Shearer's assistant.

Shearer failed to save Newcastle from the drop last season, but he's been linked with a move to the Owls before, when Geoff Sheard was showing interest in investing in the club.

It would be a gamble for Owls chairman Lee Strafford to appoint the former England international, but it could easily bolster the attendances at S6, and prove a big draw for potential investors.

Only in The Sun, so take it with a pinch of salt...

What have we got to lose? We're going down at this rate anyway, and with his reputation as a player as the article states, maybe it'd be some much needed drawing power for investors? Right now i dont think we're the most appealing club to invest in. I say get him in if he's interested, for the sole purpose of utilising his name, and if he turns out half decent in the process then everyone's happy.

Yeh right?? I heard some stuff in the papers but this one, well theres more chance of the the Bramall porky lane being a world cup venue?

If its in the Sun it has to be true! dont want this to happen yes big name but but if sends us down (which he will) who will want to invest we need a manager this week but please god not him
bodsy owl
Great, get him in asap, might be able to work with our strikers and show them how to score! If he can get 25 goals a season out of Clarke then he should be knighted, mind you in league 1 Clarke might score 25 goals a season, can't wait for next season already!!
sussexowl
Is he too old to play?
Radon Barrier
Weren't these two supposed to be the management team at the lane a few weeks back, pray this doesn't happen. Shearer made no difference at newcastle (albeit only a few games) we need someone experienced who will show us how to battle for the points we have got to get
Owl75
mark robins wasnt chamionship experienced when barnsley got him and look what hes done though!?
supersibon
The last thing we need is some old fart like Steve Coppell or George Burley. i think we should take a chance on a Shearer or a Ferguson.

Look whoever they appoint! why is it taking so long?! we're in serious trouble, for starters we've got 4 weeks in which to try and shift out the rubbish in the squad and get some new blood in, surely the board realises this, they've had more than enough time to assess the candidates so make the damn decision, get them in and let them get on with sorting this mess out! before it's too late! whether it's shearer, worthington or whoever!
regi_stinker
It is vital we appoint someone as soon as possible. Agree with point above we have to get rid of some of the junk Laws brought in. My money is on Cotterill possibly with some other person as media spokesperson as this is where Cotterill has not come across well. Can not see any of the names mentioned apart from Megson saving us from drop.

Mark Robins had previous manager experience, Shearer is untried, there have been plenty of openings for managers, so why has no-one taken Shearer, because they don't want to gamble and i assume he does not come cheap.
