Shearer Denies Owls Links

As expected, Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer has denied this morning's tabloid reports linking him with the vacant manager's position at Wednesday.

The Sun this morning reported that Owls chairman Lee Strafford was keen to bring the former Premier League striker to Hillsborough to replace Brian Laws as manager, with a host of other national papers following suit.

But Shearer has told BBC Sport that there's 'no truth' in the rumours linking him with the Owls post.

The Newcastle-born striker has only had short managerial experience with his hometown club, but it wasn't enough to steer them away from relegation from the Premier League.

He's been linked with the manager's position at Wednesday before, when Geoff Sheard was looking into investing in the club.
