Owls Wise To Keep Waiting?

It seems like an age since Brian Laws cleared his desk at Middlewood Road and left Sean McAuley in temporary charge of a relegation battle at S6.

In fact it's only a month, but when you're in the position we're in at the foot of the table, a month can be a long, long time.

Which begs the question, is Lee Strafford doing the right thing in biding his time over appointing the next permanent manager of Wednesday?

Scores of names have been linked with the position, some being ridiculous, some being unispiring, some being realistic, and some moving on to other clubs.

But we seem no nearer to having a new permanent manager on board - former PNE boss Alan Irvine is the closest we seem to be to a real rumour at the moment, and even that's just 'paper talk'.

Owls chairman Lee Strafford has already hinted that he'll hold fire over the next, and crucial, appointment until the club is closer to securing, or not, investment.

The strategy has already seen former Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson choose a move to Preston ahead of Wednesday, despite having a meeting about the vacant role at S6.

North End acted in a double-quick time to appoint Ferguson as Irvine's replacement, and they're not exactly a team struggling at the wrong end of the Championship.

Strafford will have to hope that other candidates for the Owls job aren't so impatient.

The possible postponement of Saturday's clash with Peterborough, then, a mammoth game for both clubs, could well be a blessing inn disguise for Wednesday, and maybe a stroke of luck for the chairman.

Of course, the clash could still be on weather permitting - the club are set to give an update on the situation today.

But I'd certainly prefer to have a permanent manager in place for such a pivotal game in the Owls' season.

I'd prefer Strafford to take his time in making the right appointment for the job, certainly more than making a rushed decision over the Christmas period, one which could have turned out to be the wrong one.

There certainly seems to be no shortage of candidates for the role, some have come out publically to delcare their interest, so Strafford's decision to hang fire could well prove a masterstroke.

And it could well define his so-far short time as Wednesday chairman so far, or indeed throughout his time at the club in the past, and in the future.

The forthcoming appointment could well mean Owls fans are either fully behind Strafford's reign at S6, or it could mean Wednesdayites turn against him in their droves.

Hopefully it won't be the latter.

Strafford has always asked us to trust him, hey, he's a Wednesdayite afterall, and we'll have to do just that over what's set to be a crucial week or two at Hillsborough.

Hopefully, Lee will be a wise old Owl come the end of the current changes at the club.

They've GOT to get someone - they can't leave it hanging indefinately. The transfer window closes at the end of january, and any potential manager needs time to evaluate his existing playing staff, before deciding which areas need strenghtening, which players are no longer required etc. We're going to end up with someone who will have little, if any time to sign new players before the transfer window closes. At the time of Laws's sacking, we were "a matter of weeks" away from investment (again!) and it still hasn't materialised. He can't wait on the off chance that money will come. LEE STRAFFORD NEEDS TO ACT NOW.

I just keep wondering when Wednesdays managerial appointment will be made and who it will be. With time running out in the transfer window, I just hope the new guys gonna have to time to assess, out, and bring in, if not even a new manager aint gonna make the difference which is needed. Even Sean Macaulay the great cant do anything with our current players and from the way he speaks in his interviews sounds like he dont rate them either. I loved his comment on radio Sheffield where he said ... "A Top Championship team !! huhhh !! they wanna start playing like one !! ", and his last comment " I've told the players, they gotta start playing for Wednesday, any player that dont wanna play for Wednesday they know where my door is and Im sure we can arrange something to move them elsewhere !! Well done Sean !! I understand Lee waiting, I think maybe we have been to quick to bring in before but whats worrying is when the big names linked to Owls start going elswhere. Yes they have apparently had over 100 applicants but what worries me is a friend of mine recieved his letter from Wednesday yesterday saying he hadnt been shortlisted for the job !! which makes me laugh cos he applied for a laugh to see what would happen, now how many more of these 100 are just random people and how may are serious contenders. We then take into account what Lee said that a fair few are dependant on the take over HA Ha !! sorry for laughing !! From what Darren Ferguson said in his interview he must have been one of them as his reason to go to Preston instead of Owls was down to investment !! Im trying not to worry and have faith but this aint easy Mr Strafford !!

the investment better come quick and when he makes his choice for manager he better be good hes telling us to be calm about the whole thing hes draging it on to long now so if no investment comes and the manager is some nobody with no time to bring in some new players on loan that is lee should walk cause were going to be no better of than we are now SORRY
dublin owl
investment, what investment, there is no investment coming
Handsworth Owl
maybe there is investment or maybe not but we should let sean take control of transfers etc until a new manager comes in, i trust sean and think one day he will be great manager

It's obvious what Strafford is doing, he's delaying thing's with the new manager, so when we do get a new manager the window will have closed.
ecco owl
let the window close we don`t have any money to buy anyone...
Handsworth Owl
We must have a little money from the sale of Wood to Coventry, and wages for Luke Varney back to Derby ?
ecco owl
does anyone else think Strafford looks like count dracula?
Norman
You've got a point Norman, after all he's sucked all the money out of me 1215.00 worth, but one things for sure it will not happen again.
