Owls Set To Appoint Irvine

Former Preston North End boss Alan Irvine is set to be unveiled as the new Wednesday manager, according to a report on the BBC Sport website this morning.

Irvine has been one of the front-runners for the job ever since he left Preston last month, and Wednesday are all set to announce his arrival at S6 sooner rather than later, according to the report.

The 51-year-old Scot spent two years at Preston, taking them to the Championship play-offs last season before bowing out against Sheffield United at the semi-final stage.

Things didn't go quite as according to plan this season at Deepdale, but when Irvine departed PNE were only eight points off the Championship top-six.

His record at the Lancashire club read 110 games, 45 wins, 40 defeats and 25 draws.

Irvine spent most of his playing days at Crystal Palace, Everton, Queen's Park, Dundee United and Blackburn Rovers before taking up a coaching role at Premier League Everton prior to his switch to Preston.

He's also been academy director at former club Blackburn and Newcastle United.

He could have been manager at West Brom this season, but he turned down the role at Midlands club in the summer in favour of sticking with Preston.

good record at Preston. When he took over there, Preston were in bottom 3 and led them to solid mid-table finish then play-offs following season. Good appointment in my opinion.

Not unhappy with this appointment if true. I think most people would agree that he was sacked too early at Preston. He is a decent manager and I think he will do a good job for us. I wonder if this means that the long awaited investment is finally in place...we can but dream!!!
