Owls Set To Appoint Irvine

Former Preston North End boss Alan Irvine is set to be unveiled as the new Wednesday manager, according to a report on the BBC Sport website this morning.

Irvine has been one of the front-runners for the job ever since he left Preston last month, and Wednesday are all set to announce his arrival at S6 sooner rather than later, according to the report.

The 51-year-old Scot spent two years at Preston, taking them to the Championship play-offs last season before bowing out against Sheffield United at the semi-final stage.

Things didn't go quite as according to plan this season at Deepdale, but when Irvine departed PNE were only eight points off the Championship top-six.

His record at the Lancashire club read 110 games, 45 wins, 40 defeats and 25 draws.

Irvine spent most of his playing days at Crystal Palace, Everton, Queen's Park, Dundee United and Blackburn Rovers before taking up a coaching role at Premier League Everton prior to his switch to Preston.

He's also been academy director at former club Blackburn and Newcastle United.

He could have been manager at West Brom this season, but he turned down the role at Midlands club in the summer in favour of sticking with Preston.

After all the big names we've landed the biggest of the lot. Could it be true. Am I dreaming. Am I in Wednesday wonderland. Watch all the big name players and investors come flooding in now. Next stop the champions league.
Radon Barrier

Hello league 1 wtf LS
bodsy owl
good record at Preston. When he took over there, Preston were in bottom 3 and led them to solid mid-table finish then play-offs following season. Good appointment in my opinion.
charmer
Not unhappy with this appointment if true. I think most people would agree that he was sacked too early at Preston. He is a decent manager and I think he will do a good job for us. I wonder if this means that the long awaited investment is finally in place...we can but dream!!!
CLIFFANDJ
wot 110 games 45 wins 40 defeats n 25 draws not actually owt exciting now is it.
ollyowl70
lets get behind him and press on. up the owls!
Hirsty's Shinpads
Alan Irvine is currently talking to Lee Strafford at the Tankersley Manor, remember where you heard it first!
gloucblade
Living near Preston most PNE fans i know were shocked that he was sacked, Its exactly what this club needs, Preston have achieved so much in the last few years with very little in the way of cash and a small fan base. Cant be a bad move in my book.
DH oWL
spent more than laws bad choice if you ask me
bodsy owl
gb that just proves strafford has sold out. Whats wrong with the Parson Cross hotel. Two courses for a fiver.
Radon Barrier
I live near Tankersley might go up n put a stop too it
bodsy owl
Nothing wrong with Tankersley manor us it myself for business I know I had seen GB there he carried my bags and BFL is the gents toilet assistant lol. Well not a top name but I think he could be good for us watch this space.
HorburyOwl
Not any more Horbury BFL has been sacked for drinking the toilet water. I'm not over the moon, but have just done a bit of reading about him and he is probably a good choice at the moment. We'll have to see.
Radon Barrier
irvine only got the worst job in football because 1st choice super blade warnock turned you pigs down.
bladesforlife1889
What's wrong Piggieforlife and Gloucpiggie? You've been on here more times in last the last few days than you have your own page. We all know you both want to be Owls so why don't you just stop kidding yourselves and admit it!!! Irvine not a bad choice in my opinion, could have been a lot worse....we could have got Megson. UTO
Hickyowl1977
or we could have Blackwell lol what a muppet he is!!! they always come on here because no one goes on there sight as pig fans are too stupid to read and write
bodsy owl
Just passing on a bit of info to cheer you up, Hicky. No need to get abusive. Think Irvine will do a good job for you, first arrival will be Ian Mellor.
gloucblade
Na, he's already played for us, or did you mean his son Neil? And again, more interested on our site than your own.....
Hickyowl1977
Why cant that baldesforlife1889 ***** off and concentrate on that ***** up at bramall lane, what a tosser !!! On a more serious note what a great signing Irvine !!
dicanio23
radon barrier, i think irvine is a pretty good manager, has experience and a decent track record but its much easier to be a sarcastic negative tw*at then get behind your team isnt it??
ozzietheowl
I'm happy with the appointment as well ozzie, just ashame that we'll always get arseh0les on this site that are never satisfied no matter what, why don't they join pigforlife and gloucpig on piggy site and give us all a rest.
ecco owl
Happy with Irvine decent record at a club that every season gets rid of its best players.
priestley
