'If It's Football, It's Vital'

And Let The Rumours Commence...

Former Owls boss Brian Laws was only appointed manager of Premier League Burnley yesterday - but already the rumours of Wednesday players following him have begun.

With a relatively huge transfer and wage budget to play with at Turf Moor, Laws will no doubt be thinking above the current Wednesday squad, which he built, to help the Clarets survive in the top flight.

But one player still stands out from what's been a so-far failed season at Hillsborough - goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Already the tabloid newspapers are linking the Owls' number one with a move Turf Moor in the January transfer window.

The Mirror is today reporting that the former Derby County stopper could be a 1.5 million target for Laws this month.

The rumour links it with other reports doing the rounds this week that Wednesday boss Alan Irvine must sell some of his current squad in order to bring new players in and save the Owls' campaign.

But Irvine will no doubt know the importance of Grant to the Owls squad, and will be keen to keep the former England under-21 at S6 for the remainder of the season at least.

Still, a tempting offer from Lancashire could well see the stopper make the switch to the top flight, and leave Wednesday with a big gap to fill in double-quick time.

the Daily Mail says Sheffield Wednesday defender Mark Beevers could be a target for the former Owls boss
Will see what happens! I think we need to keep hold of Grant though
I'd take 1.5m for Grant, provided that at least half would go back in the kitty for players
id take 6-7 million for the trio of beevers, grant and tudgay providing ALL of it would be available for AI to spend!!!!
I think that Grant is the one we really need to keep.

Could cash in on Grant get Iain Turner on Loan... He did a very sound job when at Wednesday few seasons back and Irvine obvioulsy knows Moyes well from Everton days. Just a thought. Though I do like Grant.
Lee Grant at the moment is our most important player! Beevers and Tudders can be replaced right away with the players within the squad, lets ride out January and see how it is at the end of the season. Unless Burnley give us the beast on loan!!!
1.5 mill is an absolute joke for Grant, Laws or any one else would av to double that at least
If Grant goes we have *****ed it, unless we can get a decent replacement in like Iain Turner, from Everton, who Irvine will know well. To be honest, i think that he is the best we could do because we ain't going to get no one special in if he Grant does go. But i would be looking for a bit more than 1.5mill for Grant to be honest. By far the best keeper in the Championship.
will it ever happen
What a good idea, lets sell all of our best players. Are they ****ing mad or what ? Its bad enough us struggling at the minute at the bottom of the Championship without pulling a ****ing stunt like this. If this happens, do they really expect the fans to get behind the club like they want to. Madness, utter ****ing madness.

well beevers and tudgay have been very poor this year and to be honest ive been a little disappointed with grant but if thats what it takes to get rid of those thre4e and bring in another 3 perhaps more then id give it a go if it meant us staying in this division!!!!!
You think bringing in different players is going to save us from the drop ?

Grant is the best and only decent player we have left. So far as I am concerned he is a premiership goalkeeper and definitely no worse than the majority of them in that league at the moment. If things don't change with us soon I don't think we'll be able to keep hold of him beyond the summer anyway. In light of his new and long contract Alan should do all he can to at least keep him until the end of the season and then look at it again depending on how we do and available money for team building etc. I doubt if its really as easy as Alan calling his old mate at Everton and then we end up with Iain Turner. If it isn't that easy then who really replaces Grant? Where would we be in the league now if Grant wasn't in goal? I think it will be a disaster if we lose Grant because he is bound to become a big player in the future and it will only make a tough season even tougher. Other than Grant I don't care who goes but I doubt anyone else wants a single one of them.
yh i do!!!!!! cos were 2nd from bottom with the players weve got so why not bring in others??? fair enough out of the three ill be very disappointed to see grant go but as for the other two im sure we could find other players who are either as good(and currentley playing with confidence) or better to replace them!!!!
my answer should have been 'i think we'd stand a better chance of staying up by bringing in different players'--not 'yh i do' lol
Grant is easily our best player and would be the only player in the team i would be gutted to see him go. If we sell him then we have no chance of staying up. would need a lot more than 1.5million to let him go anyway!
If Grant goes we are as good as down
Tudgay to the lane for 750k???
ha ha ha ha ha ha that's a good one bfl!!
Its a deal, he's overrated anyway.
keep grant he has to be part of our long term plans by far our best player! as for anyone else lets see how alan gets them playing and if they improve we will get more at the end of the season for them, i do think we need some money from LS for loan players though maybe he could have a word with the investers for a sub until they take over in 2052
