Owls' Varney Move On Hold

Any move by Wednesday for former loan striker Luke Varney has been put on hold after Owls boss Alan Irvine revealed he can't afford to bring the former Crewe man back to S6.

Varney, who seems to be frozen out at Derby County under boss Nigel Clough, is keen for a return to Hillsborough after playing the first half of the season in the blue and white stripes.

And Irvine, although not working with the striker before, also seems keen to bring him back to help the Owls battle against relegation from the Championship.

But unless someone leaves Hillsborough in the January transfer window, no move for Varney will be possible.

'I know Luke Varney did very well when he was here,' Irvine told the official SWFC website.

'He is a very good player and someone I have known of since he was at Crewe but right at this moment, without any other players going out, we don't have the funds to bring anybody else in.'

If someone takes jeffers we could get varney and another striker to boot. But they wont, because he is utterly useless. Shame really.

i agree north stand owl but i cant see any club taking jeffers unless we give them money to take him!
Wednesdayforlife
we took him, i think claret & blue would suit him

We took him... Laws did you mean. Look at the rest of his signings... Apart from Grant. The others have been average in general or inconsistent.

Grant and Beevers wanted by Burnley. Remember what Colin said he'd do to us, Laws has actually done it.
