BREAKING: Varney Returns To Owls
Derby County striker Luke Varney has returned to Hillsborough on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The former Charlton and Crewe hitman spent the first half of the current campaign in the blue and white of Wednesday after being deemed surplus to requirements at Pride Park.
And the 27-year-old has secured a return to S6 in time for Saturday's crunch clash against relegation rivals Peterborough United.
Former Wednesday boss Brian Laws introduced Varney to the Owls faithful.
But new boss Alan Irvine has agreed to Varney's return, something which was maybe helped by an injury to Jermaine Johnson at Blackpool on Tuesday.
'Luke Varney is a player that I have admired very much since he started his league career at Crewe.,' Irvine told the official SWFC website.
'He has a tremendous work ethic and the right attributes that I seek in a player. Luke has already proved himself a very popular player during his two loan spells so far with Sheffield Wednesday and I am delighted to welcome him back to the club for the rest of the season.'
Varney is set to go straight into the squad for this weekend's visit of Peterborough.
