Stoke's Soares Keen On Owls Stay

Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares is keen to extend his loan stay with the Owls after this weekend's vital Championship clash against relegation rivals Peterborough United.

Soares' second month at Hillsborough expires on Monday following the clash, but the former Palace man is keen to stay at S6 and get more matches under his belt.

He told the Sheffield Star: 'Hopefully we can sort something out and I can get more chances and a few more goals.

'I might be staying a bit longer. We'll have to wait and see.'

Soares saw his chances at Wednesday limited before Brian Laws, the man who brought him to the club, departed at the start of December.

But he's enjoying life under new boss Alan Irvine after being given his chance in the team by caretaker manager Sean McAuley.

Soares has played in both matches under the guidance of Irvine, and scored a fine goal in the Owls' 2-1 victory at Blackpool on Tuesday night.

And it's thought that the midfielder is surplus to requirements at Premier League Stoke at the moment, giving him every opportunity to remain an Owl for another month at least.

Get him in to the end of the season. The lad will only get better the more games he plays. Would like us to buy him in the summer if possible.
