Vital Wednesday member robtheowl gives us his thoughts on the player ratings for the Owls' 2-1 victory over Peterborough at the weekend.
Grant - 6/10
Pulled off one fantasic save from a on the edge of the area, which he got a strong hand to it. Nothing else really to do, not at fault for the goal, it was a good finish.
Buxton - 6/10
Another good solid performance. Had no real threat down the left hand side and looked generally comfortable on the ball. Often running the overlap down the flank.
Purse - 7/10
Starting to show his experience and ability. Put his body in the way of everything and showed commitment at the back. Latched onto a Gray corner, only for his header to be tipped over by Joe Lewis the Posh goalkeeper.
Beevers - 6/10
Played well. Did not have a lot to deal with from the Peterboro attack, but did his job when it came to aerial play and sweeping up.
Spurr - 7/10
Looked much more confident and composed. Gradually regaining his previous form, cannot really point out where he went wrong. Looks a threat when bombing down the left flank and managed to put a few crosses in.
Soares - 6/10
Gave the ball away in areas and drifted in and out of the game, but hustled well. Strength was good, very difficult to knock of the ball and won a few free-kicks. Looks to be getting fitter as each game passes by. Well worth extending his loan.
Potter - 6/10
Similar to Soares, faded in and out of the game. Lacked commitment at times and a bit too slow in spraying his passes out wide. Seems to me like he always cuts back into danger. Still, comfortable on the ball and calm.
O'Connor - 7/10
A usual JOC game. Closed down, worked hard and commited as usual. Gets into the right goal scoring positions but rarely finishes them off. If he was taller he would be a top player.
Gray - Man-of-the-match
An extremely underrated performance on Saturday. His energy levels and comitment go very unnoticed by the majority of Owls fans. Always in the oppositions faces, constantly running and pure quality on the ball. It amazes me how at 34 he is the fittest player in the team. Well played Michael Gray.
Clarke - 7/10
Formed a good partership upfront with Tudgay. Held the ball up well and suprisingly, won a few headers in the air! Had one great volley saved by the keeper, and was a threat to the Posh with his strength and turn of pace.
Tudgay - 8/10
Glad he got the goals he deserved. Works ever so hard and gets into the right positions. Always winning the aerial challenges at both ends of the pitch. Close one between him and Gray for man of the match.
SUBS:
Varney - 5/10
Slightly disappointed with Luke when he came on. Shoved off the ball too easily at times and made poor decisions in threatening areas.
Another good performance, but we still made it hard for ourselves in the last ten minutes. Generally the team look more solid and rarely panicked under pressure. Lets just hope the run of form continues.
Also, move aside Rory Delap, Exodus Geogohan is the new throw-in king!
