Blades Do Owls A Favour

Blades Do Owls A Favour

Wednesday got a helping hand in the battle against relegation from the Championship tonight from the most unlikely source - rivals Sheffield United.

The Blades ran out convincing 3-0 winners against Reading, a side just five points behind the Owls with a game in hand going into tonight's clash.

But victory for the red and white half of Sheffield over Reading has plunged the Royals further into relegation trouble, and helped Wednesday in the process.

It will give Alan Irvine and his men an extra boost going into their crunch clash at Scunthorpe United on Wednesday night.

Rock-bottom Peterborough were also dealt a huge blow as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Preston North End, hammering another nail; in their relegation coffin.

But Plymouth Argyle closed the gap on Wednesday to four points with a game in hand after they defeated Derby County 1-0 on home soil.

Wednesday could now move up two places if they beat the Iron tomorrow, or a place if they take a share of the spoils.
