Young Owl Makes International Impact

Young Owls defender Rory McArdle netted for the Northern Ireland under-21 side's 4-0 defeat of Liechtenstein at Windsor Park -and helped them progress to the next phase of the UEFA European Championships.

The 19-year-old netted the fourth goal in the game and it arrived twelve minutes from time when he hooked the ball home from close range after substitute JamieWard had sent over a curling ball from the right.

McArdle spent most of last season on loan at League Two side Rochdale where he made 17 appearances and scored one goal. He hasn't broke into the Owls first team squad yet but was included on the bench as cover for the defesive crisis towards the end of the season.

The youngster will be hoping his international performance will help him secure a new deal at Hillsborough, with his current one set to expire this summer.Should McArdle secure a new deal it's likely Sturrock will allow him out on another season-long loan to gain some first team experience.
